First off, I'd like to state that this ISNT a how-to and I don't recommend piercing your own genitals but this is my experience so I thought I'd share it.

But, having no job and no money, I came to the conclusion that I would have to do it myself. Being a complete baby about pain, and feeling a little funny on piercing large chunks of flesh myself, I decided on a labial piercing. An inner labial piercing to be precise. I wanted something easy to hide (I was looking for a new job and also, didn't particularly want my parents to see it, they don't really approve), not too painful and in a way, it sort of means something to me. I've never been too fond of my nether regions, much like any woman I hate my cellulite, wish my bum was more shapely and would prefer it if my genitals were 'pretty' so to me this was almost a bonding experience with my genitals... I'll stop rambling now and get on with it.
I used a roughly 12 gauge sewing needle, (a quilting needle I think it actually was) the sharpest I could find. I disinfected it with surgical spirit and then washed and numbed the area with ice. I was sat on the bathroom floor, mirror between my legs, selected my spot and pushed. At first it did nothing at all, I could feel that it was sharp but it wasn't breaking any skin. I pushed harder and heard the slight pop of the first layer of skin breaking. It took me quite a while to get it through but once it was in, I felt so proud of myself.
There was quite a bit of blood, it ran everywhere so I quickly found myself a titanium 12 gauge ball closure ring and tried my best to get it through. I tried to sort of push it through as I pushed the needle out, but it didn't really work so I had no needle in, no ring in and a lot of blood covering the hole. I cleaned it up and wriggled the ring in, that was the most painful and time-consuming bit, I had to push the ring against the flesh to find the hole, every time it touched it, it stung a little and I jumped. I finally got the ring in, only to discover that there was no way I could get the ball into the ring, the tension was too tight. I considered taking it out, letting it heal and doing it some other time but decide to just find another ring. So again, I fiddled with the ring to get it through, thankfully it was a lot easier this time. as soon as it was in and everything was cleaned up, I went straight to bed with my knickers on, and a pad in place. There was a little bit of blood in the morning but not much. I cleaned thoroughly with a salt-water solution. The next day I went to the gym, which I was slightly worried about but it wasn't painful and didn't appear to have any adverse effect on the piercing.
Skip ahead one month. Already I wanted another piercing and my one labia piercing was looking a little lonely. By this time my first was healing up nicely even though I was neglecting it a little. I was quite surprised that it wasn't particularly uncomfortable, apparently I had done it at quite a good angle, so it laid flat when I had my legs together, but I still wanted another so out came the needle and I pierced it again about a centimetre away from the first. I did my best to get the same angle. This time, I placed a cork on one side of my labia, before pushing the needle through, this made such a difference, it was a heck of a lot easier and quicker, I wish I'd thought of it before. This one made my legs jerk involuntarily when the needle went through, but it still wasn't painful. No problems with the ring this time and hardly any blood.
Skip ahead another month or so, I've had no problems with my piercings, I know my methods aren't professional, and neither are my tools but I did look after my piercings and they are now both fully healed. During the healing the second one did twinge from time to time, which was unpleasant and caused me to wriggle in order to adjust the jewellery, which earned me some VERY odd looks. One piece of advice, labia piercings plus a bicycle is not particularly pleasant, but maybe that's just me.
