When A month ago
I've always liked my girlie area, but felt that some jewelry would make it look even better. So, after months of deliberating, I decided that I wanted pierce my inner labia. Now, keep in mind that I didn't have any other body modifications at this time, except piercings in my ear lobes and cartilage, so I didn't really know what to expect. Still, I have a high tolerance for pain, and therefore wasn't very concerned about the soreness issue.

Once I decided that I did want to proceed, the biggest challenge was finding somebody to take me. See, most of my friends are pretty conservative – the type that would be likely to flip out. Nevertheless, I didn't want to have to drive around by myself after it was done! I didn't even know if I'd be able to drive myself. Finally, I found somebody to go with.

After shopping around at different studios, I found a very clean, reputable one with friendly employees that I liked. This would be the place! I filled out the necessary paperwork, consent forms and such, paid, and then went to the back room with the piercer. While getting the implements ready, he told me to disrobe from the waist down. I was expecting him to give me some sort of sheet to cover with and leave the room as I undressed, but this was not the case. I managed to disregard my inhibitions and sat up on a dentist-type chair. As he was finishing organizing the jewelry, I asked what size ring he'd be using. He answered that 14g was really the best because any thinner would be more apt to tear. This was the same size I had been quoted at other studios.

He asked what side I would like pierced, and I requested the right because it is slightly larger. After a moment of fiddling around, he marked the spot with blue ink and gave me a handheld mirror to check it out myself. I glanced at it and quickly agreed that it would suffice. The truth of the matter is that I was pretty nervous and didn't give it much thought. I just wanted to get pierced and get my crotch out of this dude's face. Then, he put the clamp on. I had previously heard that this was uncomfortable for other people, but it didn't bother me at all – didn't' really even pinch! After another second or so, he told me to deeply inhale and that he would go as I exhaled. At the end of my breath out, he slid the needle through and YOW!!! I won't lie; it hurt like hell. Though no obscenities were dealt, I had to fight not to slam my knees together. He then put the jewelry in place, which again, did not feel good. At this point I felt an all over, deep ache. At least the piercing itself was blood-free. After that, he went over the basic cleaning instructions.

I'm really not sure what to compare the pain to, as I haven't had any other body piercings. All I can say is that the thinness of the tissue is deceiving because the procedure is far from painless. I put a panty liner in my underwear, thanked him and went on my way with the soap, sea salt, and cleaning instructions that came with the purchase. I took extra precaution on the ride home, and really had to sit back on my butt to help alleviate pressure, while my buddy giggled at me. I'm sure glad I didn't have to drive! When we got back, I used the bathroom and was pretty surprised to see how bloody I was because the piercing itself wasn't messy at all. Bleeding continued for a good three days, but pretty much subsided after five. Still, I was definitely sore. The biggest hassle was going to the bathroom because urine really stung and cleaning up afterwards was painful. The best way was to pee slowly and then gently pat dry with toilet paper. This was definitely the m ost annoying part of the piercing because it continued for over a week before I could pee normally.

Cleaning the piercing with mild anti-bacterial soap for the first week and a half also stung and was a bother because the ring is not in a location that can be easily soaked in sea salt solution. I ended up using a bunch of clean cotton balls or paper towels soaked in salt solution for this, and would hold them as a compress for about ten minutes per day. Also, taking a full shower is pretty much necessary to get the piercing as clean as it should be to heal.

After a week I could walk normally with no problems. Honestly, I should have anticipated this piercing to be more painful and bloody than I thought it would be, perhaps that was just ignorance on my part. It's been one month, and everything seems to be healing well. The tissue stretched a little, but that's to be expected. I recently tried the piercing out in the bedroom, and it didn't really feel like anything to me, but my boyfriend isn't really happy because he said it rubs a little too much and got irritating. All in all, I'm fairly happy with my piercing, but definitely won't be getting any others below the belt. The hassle and soreness that accompany simply are not worth it. Oh well, at least it provided a good excuse not to exercise for a while!
