Last weekend, I decided it was time for some new metal.
At A Glance Author Ava Contact Ava@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Hayley Studio Primal Urge Location Perth, Western Australia I'd been discussing it with a friend and thought that seeing as I'd recently broken up with a long-term boyfriend and started seeing someone new, as well as successfully completing my first year at university, it was time to treat myself with something I've been thinking about for a while - a shiny new VCH piercing :)
I have been interested in them for a while and did heaps of research online, especially on BMEzine. However, I thought that it was something I'd never get up the balls to do, I mean..we're talking about someone stabbing me with a needle in my most sensitive area heehee :)
Anyway, one Saturday, this particular friend and I were out for lunch in Perth and we walked past Primal Urge. I'd had a couple of piercings done there in the past and was always really impressed with their professionalsm, hygiene and friendliness..I always said that if I was to get more piercings, I would go no further than Primal because in my opinion they're the best in Perth.
I walked in and was greeted by Bob's big friendly smile, and I told him that I was after a VCH. He seemed stoked about that and proceeded to explain all about the piercing and the procedure. I then bit the bullet and asked if they had any spare appointments that day, and luckily he had one about half an hour later, so my friend and I went and grabbed something to eat, then made our way back and chilled out in the waiting area.
Hayley eventually came up and told me she was ready for me, and my heart started pounding. I was almost certain that I was going to chicken out, but my friend looked at me and told me that we'd gotten this far, and besides, I'd already paid my $90. ($90 covered the cost of the piercing, jewellery and aftercare).
I went into the sterile room and sat on the bed as Hayley explained the procedure to me. She then showed me the tools that she was going to use, washed her hands and put on sterile gloves. As she continued setting up, she changed her gloves twice as she touched different things which made me all the more comfortable about the hygiene standards at Primal..they really are fantastic. Finally, the moment of truth arrived and Hayley asked me to remove my jeans and underwear. I honestly thought that was going to be the worst part, but in our conversation she had told me that she'd done a million genital piercings which really put my mind at ease, a fanny's a fanny after all :)
I laid down on the bed with one leg straight and the other leg bent and resting on the wall. Hayley proceeded to put the receiving tube under my hood, which was pretty uncomfortable but nothing too intense. She then cleaned the area with Betadine and marked up where she was going to do the piercing, it honestly felt like it was taking forever but it must have only been a couple of minutes or so, I was also very glad that she took her time with this as it was clear that she wanted to get it perfect.
She finally told me that she was ready to pierce me. I started to freak out a bit, but remembered from all the other piercings that the best thing to do about the pain is just to take a deep breath in and let it out slowly, which is what I did. Honestly, it did hurt. There was about 3 seconds of really intense pain which made me flinch, but as soon as it came, it went again. I was really surprised that it just disappeared, however as she was putting the jewellery in (curved silver barbell), it felt pretty uncomfortable but I knew the worst was over.
Next thing I know, she's handing me a mirror and telling me it's all done! I've never been happier :) it looks absolutely gorgeous, I'm so glad that I got it done. :)
Hayley offered me a glass of water and then went over aftercare, as well as giving me a sheet detailing what to do to take home, as well as 500ml of sterile saline to keep the piercing clean. I tipped her, then we left and started the mammoth walk back to the carpark (stupidly I parked over the other side of town...)
It's now two days on and I can't even feel it. It was a bit uncomfortable on the walk back to the car, however after a couple of hours it stopped hurting and now I forget it's there, except for when it makes its presence known if I'm walking up stairs or sitting awkwardly, but in no way is it a bad feeling. When I look at it there appears to be a bit of a bruise next to the hole, however it's fading away and I've had no other problems. I clean it twice a day with saline and apart from that I just leave it the hell alone!
I would definitely recommend this piercing to any girls who are thinking of getting it done! It's awesome to have a secret that only you know is there, apart from anyone you wish to share it with. My boyfriend was really stoked with it and honestly, so am I. It's the best thing I ever did!
I also cannot recommend Hayley, Bob and Kylie at Primal enough, every experience I've had there has been above and beyond any expectations.
