With my 40th birthday fast approaching, I decided I wanted to do something special, something for just me (and hopefully the men in my life) to enjoy.

I have a couple of tattoos (one on each ankle) and I have my tongue pierced so I wasn't really a stranger to body modifications.

A new male friend said he always wanted to be with a woman that had her clit pierced and he'd like to take me in to have mine done, his treat.

Now mind you, I had pondered the idea when I went in to get my tongue pierced several years ago but the thought of a complete stranger looking at my hoo-hoo and sticking a needle thru it absolutely terrified me.

I had also heard horror stories of piercers not knowing what they were doing and causing great damage or pain not to mention women saying they lost sensation. I wasn't ready to sign up for that just then.

As I've matured I started expanding my boundaries and the thought of having my clit pierced somewhat excited me. I spent 3 days researching everywhere on the internet, looking at pictures, reading stories, then I found this site.

I spent another 2 days reading the stories on here, soaking in all the opinions I could (good, bad or otherwise).

Those stories are the ones that helped me decide on the vertical hood.

So now I turned my efforts to finding a local shop that had a piercer that had experience doing the VHP (vertical hood piercing). I found a lot of shops that said they won't do them or don't have a piercer experienced enough to take it on.

I for one, wanted a McDonald's piercer - you know, one that has served billions because I wasn't going to be the guinea pig on this one.

I asked a lot of my friends that had multiple piercings (mostly nipples, eyebrows, nose, etc) and they all seemed to refer me to The Black Hole in Beaverton Oregon.

So, I called them up and from the moment they answered the phone they made me feel very confident, they were very open to answering all my questions & concerns (which I had a whole list of). They advised me to go have a good dinner, really think about it & if I wanted to do it, be there by 7:30pm (as they closed at 8).

So my friend & I went to dinner, talked about why I wanted to have it done, made a list of all the pros and cons and the decision was made right there over General Tso Chicken (grin).

We headed to the shop where we were greeted almost right away by a very heavily pierced & tattooed young man. He again went over all the info, gave me a pamphlet to read, had me sign & initial my life away and one more time asked if I had any questions or concerns.

Then Jayson my piercer (who has done over 1200 of this type of piercings himself), invited me back to the piercing room.

There was a table, much like at the gynecologist's office in the middle of a room that was so clean I could have eaten off the floor. Everything was sealed and sterile including Jayson, who must have changed his rubber gloves 4 times while I was in there.

Jayson went over the procedure with me, and then told me to disrobe from the waste down & hop up on the table. He had me lay down with my legs spread and told me not to clamp my legs together or put him in a headlock with them or we'd have an issue - he had a great sense of humor which made this whole ordeal much easier on the very nervous me.

He walked me thru every step of the process, from inserting the needle catching tube under my hood then marking with a pen where the piercing would be. He then put a mirror where I could see if I like the location and again talked me thru the next steps.

So he took out the sterile piercing needle, told me to take a big deep breath & boom, with 1 fall swoop, he was on his way to making my girlie goodies a little prettier. I on the other hand just about used a four letter word that would rise the dead as I arched my back & about came off the table but by golly I didn't move my legs a centimeter as I remembered his rule & didn't want to hear "Houston, we have a problem".

He told me the needle was thru & he was going to put the bar in now. Well, that didn't sound bad, till he started putting it thru and I again felt the blood rushing to my, heck I didn't even know where it was rushing to; I just knew this was more intense than I thought. He screwed the balls on each end & announced I was done. Then out with the mirror again to show me my adorned hood.

It was cute and I was once again excited. The minute I saw it, I forgot about the pain I had just been thru. And I spent the next few hours trying to think of everyone I could call, text or e-mail to share with them what I had done. My friend & I are marking the days on the calendar when the 6 weeks are up so we can take it for a test run (giggle). We even went & looked at jewelry that night so we can get something "cute" to replace the plain silver balls with after the healing is complete.

Kind of gives new meaning to "buy her jewelry as a gift".

So it's been 2 days now and the only time I have any pain is when I get to aggressive while cleaning it and I find trying to tighten the balls myself a bit challenging, but hey, no pain, no gain.

I'm still as excited about it now as ever.

It may not be right for everyone but if you've ever thought about it, do your research, write down your pros & cons and go for it. It's an experience I believe I will treasure for years to come.
