Prior to about a year ago I would have never ever considered getting any genital piercings. I had heard many rumors about female genital piercings like they have a high likely hood of causing a loss of sensation because it would actually go through the clit. In fact the likelihood of a loss of sensation is low, the piercing does not going through the clit itself, and there are many different types of female genital piercings to fit different body types and preferences. So once that was all cleared up I started looking and reading more and more about them...I got very intrigued.
I did as much research as I could on BME and other websites, looked at tons of pictures, and talked to everyone I could who knew anything about those types of piercings including people I knew with them. Educating myself always makes me feel so much more confident and I definitely like to be the well informed customer when I enter a shop. Im usually a very impulsive person when making decisions except when it comes to body mods. I always mull over any modifications in my mind for quite a long time, usually at least a year, if not more. I hadn't discussed the idea with any of my friends because none of them are really into modification, which is unfortunate. Finally one drunken night as my best friend was dropping me off after the bar I blurted out that I had off Thursday and would she like to go get a piercing. She said yeah possibly and what would I like to get...I said it as non-chalantly as possible that I wanted a vertical hood piercing. She was a little bit shocked but not as much as I expected. I explained to her all the different types of piercings and she actually said that it sounded like a great idea and that she wanted one too! I kinda figured this was half the alcohol talking and plus she would have to discuss it with her girlfriend but we made plans to get together on Thursday.
By the time Thursday rolled around I was so excited. The day before I had called around to all the shops that I trusted with in a half hour of my house in order to get prices. Everyone was right around 100 dollars for all genital piercings with a few a bit higher or lower. The place I wanted to go had sent their piercer home early so I went to my second choice. I wasn't too nervous until we got closer to the shop. But I was quite relieved, more than I thought I would be, that it was a woman piercer. It's a lot easier to be with your own "kind" I think when in situations that make you uncomfortable.
My piercer, Elise, was the nicest woman. She set everything up for me while I looked at some flash on the wall. Than me and my best friend went into the room and she explained everything to me. She pointed out what each piece would do and allowed me to ask any questions. I thought the bar she picked out (the normal length) was too long. I stripped down from the waist down and laid on the table. She agreed that she would need a shorter bar.
I laid back and took a few breaths. I started to think "Damn I can not believe I am doing this!?" She sprayed alcohol on some gauze and wiped me down. SERIOUSLY THAT WAS THE WORST PART! Omg! I don't recommend alcohol on your private parts! Wow! That stuff burned like crazy...it got super hot and was just a very strange feeling. It made my eyes water and I started fanning myself hahah!
She told me the receiving tube would be a little uncomfortable which it was but not too bad. She instructed me to take two deep breaths and on the second breath she stuck the needle in.
The needle was shocking and I let out a little gasp. That's it! It was literally a second of pain and that was it. Even the little 14g curved barbell didn't hurt! She screwed on the ball on the end of the barbell and I put my pants back on! It was all over! I tipped her 20 bucks and was on my way out the door! I went to lunch that day, took a shower, and went out to the bar that night!
I have not felt a single bit of pain! None! Seriously! I don't enjoy pain and I don't particularly feel I have a high threshold for it or anything. It really has not hurt!
My aftercare has been using anti bacterial soap and using sea salt soak 3 times a day for two weeks, than 2 times a day for another two weeks. The sea salt soak is a 1/8 tsp sea salt (not iodine or kosher) to a ¼ cup water. Hope you have as great a piercing experience as I did!
