I have been poking around BME for the past year but had yet to have anything done. About six months ago I was inspired to get my rook pierced, very much on the spur of the moment. One month after that I decided to have my nostril pierced. Two months later I took the plunge and got a vertical clitoral hood piercing. Anyone who says tattoos and piercings are addictive is correct.

I went along with the joke for a little while but didn't seriously consider it. But all this talk of a genital piercing made me curious so I started researching. I was completely uniformed about such piercings and thought I would never do it because I was sure it would be the single most painful experience of my life. I didn't know there was a difference between clit piercings and hood piercings. From reading similar experiences on BME I learned that a clit piercing caused minimal pain and had a huge payoff in the end.
I decided I wanted a vertical hood piercing and told my best friend who immediately agreed to have it done with me. However, being low on money, I was going to wait until the end of summer when I knew I'd have some extra cash. Well that didn't happen. At the end of June I was at her house and we were looking for something to do, she suggested going to get the piercing and agreed to loan me the money. I called the place I normally go to for piercings because I'd trust the piercer with my life. I knew she was pregnant but I didn't know when she was due. Good for her and sad for me, she'd had her baby the day before. We ended up going to another place that I knew had a good reputation and that my sister had been pierced at.
It was a busy Friday night so we had to wait for several other piercings which gave us plenty of time for our nerves to shake us up. The piercer was a big burly man with a long beard and black and grey sleeves. He was friendly and professional but imagine dropping your panties for him. When it came time for us to go he pulled the curtain and my friend made me go first because I'd come up with the idea. We'd had the forethought to wear long skirts so we could just pull them up instead of having to take off our pants. I sat in the dental-like chair with stirrups and my friend held my hand tightly. I watched him set up and pull out all his sterile equipment so I knew it was all ok but it did bother me a little that he didn't go out of his way to explain that it was all sterile, etc. the way my usual piercer does. Anyway, he took a moment to clean the area, mark it, and clamp it. Then in went the needle. My legs instinctively closed together and it is hard to explain the pain. For a fleeting moment it hurt terribly, much more than my other piercings. But unlike the others the pain went away instantly, there was no discomfort or aching like I'd usually expect.
For aftercare he recommended cleaning it with Bactine and an antibacterial soap, with the option of using sea salt rinses. Since my usual piercer's aftercare was different (she only suggests sea salt soaks unless infected) I didn't really listen to him. I've also read elsewhere that Bactine is bad for fresh piercings as it is too harsh for the newly forming skin. I instead used sea salt and cleaned it with the soap. I only did the soaks a few times because I'm lazy and the piercing never bothered me. I still clean it with soap most days and have had no problems. It is the easiest piercing ever. I don't know if this is the best aftercare routine but it worked well for me.
The other instructions I got included no oral sex (this was a bit of a sacrifice, I won't lie). However, he did say I could have sex whenever it felt comfortable as long as a condom was used. I waited a week or so just to be on the safe side as I didn't want it getting bumped around and simply because I'm paranoid, I made sure to be careful and not let it get too rough. Ha.
Overall it has been a wonderful experience. I love my piercing, it is easy to take care of and it is fun. I have heard from some people that it made a dramatic effect on there pleasure from sex. For me this wasn't true although it does enhance some aspects (for example, vibrators on metal... think about it). When I first got the piercing I had a boyfriend so he knew about it before seeing it because I was too excited not to tell him. Now that I'm single again I can't wait to see a guy's reaction when I let him discover it. That is itself will be enjoyable for me I think.
