Wow the excitement! I had been planning this piercing for months, researching, talking to friends and letting the idea of someone putting extra holes in me "down there" just sit in my brain. The first time I mentioned that I wanted my vertical clitoral hood pierced to a good (male) friend of mine he strongly advised me to think on it for a long while before I went ahead with it, and thus I did. I thought about it for about 4 months and after deciding that I still wanted it I went in to talk to the piercer I had chosen about getting it done in November of 2005 only to find out that he was going to be gone all of December touring with his band. Because of this we decided that it would be best to wait until he got back just incase I had any problems with it. So as January came along I called the shop pretty much everyday seeing if he was back yet and was ecstatic the day he answered the phone, making my appointment and then calling my boyfriend up to share the news.
At A Glance Author Tinkerbell Contact Tinkerbell@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Mark Studio Capital Q Tattoo Location Edmonton, AB I had made my appointment for exactly a week away so that meant I had a whole week to get nervous and excited. And nervous I was, since it's such a sensitive area and the only other piercings I have are 4 in my ears and my belly button... none which hurt overly bad. My boyfriend seemed almost as excited for it as I was and promised he'd come with me.
The day of the piercing I had class in the morning, and then made my way home to eat some lunch before heading to the shop. I made my boyfriend drive me there with the intention of having him hold my hand while I got it done. When we first got there Mark, the piercer, went to the back to prep the room and get everything all set up. Then he took us back and asked if I needed a refresher (since I'd talked to him about everything before) and then went through some of the care and procedure with me again. Then he started cleaning the area, and already my boyfriend was getting a bit queasy. At this point I asked if it was going to bleed a lot and if so then my guy should leave. Mark said that it probably would be best if he left then.
Mark and I chose the jewelry (just a normal 8g barbell with a red jewel at one end ... so pretty!) and he made sure that I liked the placement. He changed his gloves so many times during the procedure and was so professional about it that I was actually pretty relaxed considering my level of nervousness upon getting to the studio. He went through what each instrument he was going to use was and what it did, but didn't show me the needle (upon my request). Then he got all set up and told me to focus on breathing in and out, so I did, and I stared at this crazy mask that he has on the wall in the room. Breathing in and out and in and out wondering when it was going to happen but trying to focus on breathing...Then bam, it went through and it was the most intense pain I've ever felt. I totally jumped and gripped the sides of the dentist-like chair really really tight. I felt another small pinch as the jewelry went thru and then no pain whatsoever as he screwed on the ends.
It definitely was the most painful piercing I've ever experienced yet it was also the largest gauge that I've ever been pierced at so that probably contributed to it. Mark showed me the needle afterwards and it looked huge!! I've never seen any of the needles that I've been pierced with before but even still when I saw it my first thought was "wow that's huge, no wonder it hurt so much". Along with the pain, I had a throbbing sensation for about 2 hours afterwards and I could just feel it, not that it was uncomfortable but it was just there. I also experienced a lot of bleeding at first, which possible was a good thing since it forced me to sit there and relax for awhile afterwards since Mark wouldn't let me leave till it was pretty much stopped. He let my boy come back and take a look and I got to look at it with a little hand mirror. I love it; it's so cute and pretty. My guy thought it looked kind of scary at first since it was still bleeding a bit when he first saw it, but after it was all cleaned up he thought it looked hot. Good thing too, since it cost me $120 I really hope that I can share it with someone. I was so happy with Mark's professionalism and how well the piercing went that I'm definitely heading back to him to get my next piercing done, now I just have to decide what to get done.
Although all my friends thought I was nuts when I told them what I was getting done I don't regret it at all. I love it and although I've only had it for a day and a half now I haven't had any problems or any lingering pain. I'm excited to learn if there is any "other" benefits to having this done, and I do have to say that walking up stairs is a bit of an experience now. I can definitely feel the jewelry there when I'm walking up or down stairs and I'm not really sure yet what exactly it feels like but its just that I'm more aware of it then at any other time. I wouldn't say everyone should go out and get one, but I'd definitely say that the pain was worth the pleasure.
