My addictions to body piercing started with the navel, which is a relatively "acceptable" form of body modification, to my brand new vertical hood piercing, which would cause my poor mother to die of shock if she knew about it. I feel like such a rebel. ;)

I just recently moved to Flagstaff and was slightly panicky about where to go to get pierced. Back home I always went to the same piercing place – Body Creations in Glendale – and it was extremely sterile and I trusted both of the piercers. I searched high and low for a place here in Flagstaff that was just piercings, but there isn't one. I asked around, and a lot of people recommended that I go to Burly Fish, which is a rather popular tattoo shop.
I was hesitant about going to a place that was strictly piercings (I've heard – and seen – the horror stories) but I called them around noon and talked to the piercer. He was very cool. He didn't mind me asking if he was experience and if he used all sterile products. He told me he'd been piercing for 5 years and that he does everything by the book. Cool.
So I called my friend up and told her to come with me. I wasn't about to go to a new piercer on my own. We went to have a huge lunch (something I don't usually do before piercings, but felt I ought to this time) and then headed down to Burly Fish.
I was pleased with my decision to go there the moment I walked in. It was cheerful, clean, and everyone there was extremely friendly. I told the girl at the counter what I wanted (I even managed to not stumble over the words!) and she gave me the paperwork, asked if I had been quoted a price (I had, on the phone) and I filled everything out. She took a copy of my drivers license and told me that it would be a few minutes until he could see me because he was just finishing up with someone.
This would be about the time I got a bit nervous. I read a lot of experiences on BME where people said it didn't hurt much. So I wasn't worried about pain. I was more worried about dropping my pants in front of a strange guy who I'd never met. I suppose I wouldn't have been nervous at all if he had at least pierced me before.
My friend and I looked at tattoos (the artists there are amazing – a tat is next on my list of things to do) while we waited. A girl with a pierced septum and some cool tattoos came out from the piercing area and told me to head back. She asked me if she could watch the procedure, as she was training to become a piercer herself. I told her she could and we headed back. I really liked her, so maybe she can pierce me next time.
Anyway, I met the guy. I believe his name is Jarod, but I can't remember. I was too nervous to remember much of anything, at first, and later I just forgot to ask. He was totally cool. He wasn't "creepy" or anything. He told me to pull up my skirt, take off my underwear, and put a paper towel thing over me to provide some privacy. As if it mattered at that point.
He cleaned my off with some strange (and cold!) gooey stuff and he took a long time making sure it was totally sanitary. He more or less walked me through the process. He told me the main pain (if I experience any at all) would be when the needle went through the skin. He marked it, clamped it, and told me to take deep breaths so I would relax a bit. He told me to take one more breath, I grabbed my friend's hand, and he shoved the needle through.
I must admit, I bucked a bit. It hurt. But it wasn't unbearable, and the pain was gone almost instantly. He put the curved barbell through and I was surprised I didn't feel anything when he did, since that is usually the most painful part.
I bled a lot. Usually this piercing isn't a bloody one, so maybe he hit a small vein or something. But it's not a big deal, since it isn't bleeding at all anymore.
He told me to get up and put my underwear back on. I did it slowly, expecting pain, and was surprised to feel nothing. Just standing, I can't even feel anything. Walking and sitting are totally different stories.
Sitting is uncomfortable unless I have my legs crossed or spread. Sitting normally is just awkward.
Walking at the moment is a bit strange. It's painful, but at the same time it feels kinda cool, because I can feel the ball rubbing. Can't wait until it's healed and I can actually try this one out.
I totally recommend getting the piercing done if you want something that stimulates sexual pleasure, or even if you just want something cute and personal. And if you're in Flag, totally go to Burly Fish.
Next piercing: fourchette? We'll see.
