Of all my piercing experiences, I would have to say that my hood was the most interesting. It was my fourth piercing in one week (yes, I went a little crazy after I got my septum just a week earlier)and my third time meeting my piercer, Grendel. I didn't really have any interest in piercing my hood. I got my nipples pierced the night before at his house because I'd brought a few other people who wanted to get pierced and I couldn't resist, and the topic of genital piercings came up. I was the only one in the room who said that they were not something that interested me because "needles don't belong below the belt."

Keeping that in mind, my decision to hop in my truck and get my hood pierced the next night was the last thing I thought would end up happening. Honestly, it wasn't until I walked into Grendel's house that I actually decided on my hood. I usually don't plan to get certain piercings. I just know that I want to get something done and either decide at the last minute or let my piercer decide for me. Anyway, I picked up a friend to keep me company on the drive to Grendel's and when we got there, I still had no clue what I wanted. Finally I looked down at my skirt and said "Alright...pierce my hood while I'm wearing a skirt and feeling spontaneous." My friend insisted that she hold my hand through the process so I told her I didn't care if she stayed in the room. Grendel prepared an area to do the piercing and when I saw him lay out a paper sheet on the bed, I got nervous and asked if it was for blood and how bad this was going to hurt. He laughed at me and told me it wasn't for blood, but some girls get off when they get their hoods pierced so it was just in case I fell under that category. On a scale of 1-10 he said that most girls he's pierced said it was 0-2 and I would probably barely feel the needle. The alcohol, on the other hand, was another story....

Once I was on the bed, legs spread and giggling out of nervousness, the preparation began. The second the alcohol pad grazed my "danger zone", I turned into a whiney small child. I guess I must've flinched because he started to say "I know it burns, but I have to clean the area. I'd blow on it if I knew you bett..." before he could finish, the pain began talking and I choked out, "If you want to live to see tomorrow, you will blow on my hood, NOW!" I can't imagine how awkward it must have been for him, but hesitantly, he started to blow on the area while cleaning it. (he claims to this day that he had to because i was slowly inching towards him...ha!) My friend Nikki was just laying next to me holding my hand, with this look of total disgust mixed with inquisitiveness on her face. SHe kept teling me I was crazy and grendel (between blowing) kept cracking a bunch of "i feel like i should take you out to dinner and a movie first" jokes. All I could think was "If you open your mouth and stop blowing one more time, I will hurt you" haha, but I held back and closed my eyes, waiting for what I knew was coming next...The needle.

Once that God awful part was over with though, the rest was fairly painless. I remember the clamp being a little uncomfortable, which I was warned it would be anyway, and the needle was probably about a 4 out of 10 as far as pain goes. He had me just start to breath in and out over and over again while he pushed it through. I let out a deep breath and he looked up and said "You're all done! Now all that's left is the jewelry and one more cleaning". He followed the needle through with a curved barbell. It hurt a little when he was putting the ball on because the barbell was curved and in order to get the ball on as tight as possible, he had to turn the ball in one direction while turning the barbell in the other. When it was over, I was so relieved.

I did have to go through the alcohol cleaning once more after the jewelry was in, but it wasn't as bad the 2nd time around. After he was done cleaning, I felt almost no pain at all. After just about a week, the piercing felt fine as if it was completely healed. Trust me, I am in love w/ my hood piercing now. I can't believe I was against genital piercings before I got it. It increased my sensitivity a lot and running is extra fun :) I recommend this piercing to all girls w/ open minds. It's totally worth it.
