Being a girl who had basically everything already pierced, I one day decided to take my modifications one step further. After some careful consultation and browsing through many, many pictures; I decided that a vertical hood piercing would be the way to go. I love the way it looked, delicate but tough at the same time. Where I live there are only a few piercing shops I feel being pierced at (being 3rd Eye and Ritualistics). I had checked out other shops around the city, and was disappointed of the treatment I recieved. One shop in particular, Dragon FX, had very rude and snotty staff working their counter. After being treated like an idiot by one of the piercers, I decided to look elsewhere.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact pierced_princess_7@hotmail.com When Two years ago Artist Lysa Studio Ritualistics Location Alberta I decided on my old standby, Ritualistics, because of many things. Their professional atmosphere, friendly staff, and superior jewelry just to name a few. I only know of one other shop here that has the same quality of jewelery as them. I have had problems healing piercings before, which I blame on the garbage jewelery I had been pierced with. I did not want have any problems with this piercing, so the little bit of extra money was worth it.
By the time I made my appointment at Ritualistics, I decided to be pierced with a curved barbell rather than a CBR. I much prefer the look of barbells, and the larger bead at the bottom is supossed to have some "magical" properties (if you know what I mean)...As the day drew closer, I became more and more nervous of the procedure, and mainly, the pain. I had read many conflicting experiences on BME, some ladies say that they didn't feel it much and others compared it to the ultimate pain. I decided to use EMLA cream, a topical anesthetic to help with the pain. I figured that I would be nervous enough with a stranger between my legs checking out my naughty bits, I shouldn't worry about pain too.
About one hour before my appointment, I put the EMLA cream "down there" and made sure that all the parts that would be pierced were covered completely. I made my way to the shop with cream and plastic wrap, a bit uncomfortable I must say. After arriving, Lysa chatted with me about the procedure and told me what to expect. As I said, I did have many piercings already, but none as extreme as I was about to get. My stomach had butterflies and I was very unsure of what to expect/how it would feel. She did an excellent job of clearing explaing everything, and made me feel less nervous.
While Lysa was setting up, I quickly went to the bathroom and wiped off the EMLA. I was very pleased to notice that I couldn't feel a thing. I was less afraid when I walked back into the room and Lysa had me take off my pants. She gave me a paper drape (like the ones you get at the doctor) and made my lie down on the table. From there, she marked the entry and exit holes for what seemed like forever. I checked them for placement and was happy with what I saw. I was not too keen on having to be stared at, but I was glad that she took the time to get it perfect. That is another thing that I always loved about Ritualistics...the staff are meticulous about placement. They will not pierce unless they are absolutely sure everything lines up and is in it's place.
The holes were marked with a toothpick and ink, the instruments were ready, and jewelery was sterile. All that was left to do was the piercing itself. This is when I get really nervous. Seeing this and after guiding me through a few calming breaths, Lysa told me she would pierce on 3. She said, "Done" and I replied "Really?" I had no idea that it was already over. She inserted the jewelery, tightened it up and asked if I wanted to take a look. I did not feel it at all. She commented on my lack of jumping when she pierced, and that's when I told her about the EMLA. She was surprised that it worked, and I was glad that it did. It was definately the easiest piercing I have ever healed. I was able to wear jeans out of the shop and drove home without any discomfort (probably due to the EMLA cream).
After about 2 weeks of mild tenderness, it was back to normal. There was only minimal swelling, and I did not have to clean the area (it pretty much cleans itself I was told). It has been about 2 years since I was pierced, and I still wear it. I honestly can't really tell it's there anymore...and it always makes me smile when I think of my little secret!
