I had been checking out the bme website for about 6 months and was becoming increasingly interested in genital piercing. At first I dismissed the idea, figuring that I would be to scared to go through with it.

I had previously thought I would get a outer labia piercing or a clit piercing but after reading heaps of experiances on bme and after careful consideration I decided I would get a vertical hood.

I was still scared but was warming up to the idea with each day that passed... I loved the look of the piercings but felt too amateur to get a genital piercing, I already had my ears stretched to about 5ml then, with both lips and beauty spot pierced so I guess I wasn't a stranger to what it feels like to be pierced, but such a precious area?? I didn't know what to expect. Luckily the guys (and gals) at Absolution are really patient and open about what might seem like stupid basic questions. They also provide a female piercer (Sandra) who does female genital piercings which i found a comfort...

I almost backed out so many times walking towards the shop, but I had alot of support from my friends which helped alot. And i think I decided if I really am as serious as i would like to think about my piercings, theres no reason not to do this apart from the obvious fear of pain "down there".

So here I am. Standing in line waiting to get my first genital piercing. Scared as hell. All I could think about was what it would feel like being pierced, what it would feel like *after being pierced*, is a ring better or a curved barbell? Am I wearing nice underwear today?? I was completely oblivious to the fact of showing a near stranger and female my "bits".. I had previously thought that this would be my number one concern but at the time it seemed not to matter at all.

I went in with my friend and instructed her strictly not to "look" and sandra told me to make myself comfortable. She told me that I could take off as little or as much as i felt comortable with and to put my legs in the smear test position. This was probably the most uncomfortable bit, especially when I was feeling so restless already. I asked heaps of questions, mainly I think I was stalling the inevitable but she was really good about it all and answered them all honestly and in as much detail as I wanted. Finally I decided I would have to quit stalling and if I was going to do it ,just do it.

Sandra asked whether I wanted a warning or for her to just do it, I told her to just do it. I felt the cold clamps tugging a little on my hood, and then a burning pain with the needle sliding through my flesh. I imagine its hard to be gentle with this sort of piercing considering its going to hurt either way. I let out a yelp, and tried to remain as still as possible.. She put the curved barbell in and handed me a mirror and I had my first glance of my new piercing and I loved it!! Sandra also offered me a panty liner just incase the piercing bleeds a little which I recommend you take some if your not given them just in case. My piercing bled a little but nothing out of the ordinary.

I was actually surprised at how quick the piercing was. For a second, it really really hurt but as soon as that initial prick is over, I was completely fine and not hurting at all. I felt very relaxed and had that warm glowing pride that you get after piercings.

I paid and was given a large aftercare pack of instructions, protex antibacterial soap and bag of sea salt and a happy "welcome to the club" by David the owner and hobbled out the door and home.

For about a week after, I had a sea salt bath every day and cleaned the area with sea salt once I had gone to the toilet as well. THere was no way i was going to let my little treasure be anything but superbly clean! I imagine it looked a bit suss taking a drink bottle with sea salt into the toilet with me everytime at school though...

Its been about a year or a bit more since I had my vertical hood pierced, It was definately a great experiance for me and it really opened my eyes up to alot more piercing options. I havent had any problems with my vertical hood at all, when it was initially pierced it swelled up quite a bit which was a bit uncomfortable for a day or two but nothing major. Since then I have experimented with different jewellery and find a straight barbell feels better than a curved for me. It has definately changed the way "things" feel down there for the better, I can't wait to get more and for anyone thinking about getting this particular piercing i would definately recommend it. I can't imagine being with out it :)
