Well, every few months (sometimes years) or so I get the urge to add something new to my life. I wasn't sure what it would be this time but I knew it was time for a big jump and to do something that was just for me. So after months of consideration, and the realization that I had run out of other places I decided to get my hood pierced.

So off I went to start my researching.
I started my research on BME. I read many (until my eyes went fuzzy) girls' experiences with genital piercings in general and realized that very few girls had horizontal hood piercings. This worried me a bit because I much preferred the look and idea of a horizontal piercing rather than a vertical one. All in all though the experiences I read were positive and confirmed my ideas that this was a good route. I spoke with a few people who had genital piercings (including piercers with them) and all their feedback was positive. Not to get myself all worked up, but I also asked them about the pain. I'm not new to piercings, this would be my 19th piercing (five retired) but I do remember each of them being at least a bit uncomfortable. I figured that my nipples were the most painful piercing I had endured so I asked them to compare to that. Everyone said that it was far less painful. Good.
I went down to Checkered Past and talked to them about my jewelry choices, looked through their portfolio and talked to the piercers. I also asked to confirm about whether or not I would be eligible for a horizontal piercing. Talking about it definitely confirmed it for me and made me much more excited.
I went home and reviewed with my boyfriend all the implications of the piercing and we spent some time with a CBR without a bead placing the jewelry in different positions and making sure I liked the way it look and sat. I stood up and sat down, and lay down and wiggled around to make sure it was comfy. All good.
I decided it was definitely time. I called Checkered Past and scheduled an appointment with Wes, the senior piercer there. I choose him to pierce me because he has done all of my other piercings (and most of my boyfriend's and most everyone else's I know for that matter) and I felt very comfortable with his abilities to do this very well since this was not a piercing I was willing to take a chance with. I also in general feel very comfortable with this studio because they are well established and are APP members.
So the day came (I tried really hard to get a good night's sleep the night before with much difficulty) and I woke up lively and excited. I was a bit droogy though so I drank a cup of coffee (OPPS!), then I had a headache so I took an Advil (bigger OPPS!), then I sat there in disgust for myself for everything I'd already done wrong. Oh well.
Despite my OPPsy morning, we got there okay even through my jumpiness the entire hour plus drive there. I ate a Danish so I would have food in me and enough sugar. So I get in the door a bit early and he isn't there yet, so I decided this was a good chance to go smoke, this was the first time I was ever truly nervous for anything.
After he arrived and I was all set I decided on a 12-guage CBR, and got all prepared and hopped up on the table. I made sure to tell him about my OOPsies of the morning, but it wasn't too big a deal and I'm not a bleeder at all. He did the whole preparing the area thing and told me that a CBR in a horizontal hood may not be a good idea for me because of my body structure (so sad). But it was okay still because curved barbell would be okay. He warned me that I might have some discomfort with the barbell being turned to one side or the other. That was fine with me though and I was willing to deal with it. So we proceeded.
My biggest fear was that I would (involuntarily) clasp my legs together as the needle went though or accidentally kick someone (something I wouldn't want to do to someone putting a needle through any of my body parts). To keep this from happening he had me put my legs to either side of the table so I couldn't pull them together and had my boyfriend hold my legs down at the knees (I wasn't going anywhere now). He clamped me and asked me to confirm the placement (it was just where I had hoped it would be). So I lay back down and concentrated on my breathing. I was relaxed and ready.
I didn't feel the needle go in but I sure felt it come back out. Apparently my back arched about a foot off the table, and I screamed (I've never made a noise before), I do remember screaming, and unfortunately so do all the people who were in the other room. Oh well. The insertion of the jewelry was a bit annoying but not painful (the barbell was internally threaded). He made sure that I was okay and didn't feel lightheaded or anything and I hopped down from the table.
It was completely comfortable, and there was no pain left at all. I really expected to be very sore for a while like a nipple piercing but it wasn't. The actual piercing itself was a very quick sharp pain and then it was over. It was so pleased with myself.
We went and ate afterwards and I still felt great. I had four days before I had to go back to work (as a waitress) so I went home and took it easy (not to aggravate the new piercing), I cleaned it with salt soaks and kept the area clean with Provon. It was the best and easiest piercing I've ever healed. I had some soreness when I tried to wear tight jeans for the next few weeks so I avoided them. Other than that it was perfect. It's definitely my favorite piercing and I'm so proud of my accomplishment. I would recommend this to anyone, it's great... just take good care of it, it's not a piercing that you want trouble with.
