For weeks I had wanted to get a vertical hood piercing. I researched it plenty, here on BME and other places. I read as many experiences and looked at as many pictures as I could. I was kind of nervous about it, but I knew I'd get over it. I had read bad things about it, like people jumping when they got it, migration, and that it hurt pretty bad. But when I want something I have to have it. I'm glad I researched it first, but I'm not glad that I worried so much for nothing.

My friend and I planned on a date and decided that would be the day I would finally do it. It gave me enough time to save up some money. I waited and waited and finally it was time to go. I was pretty nervous. The thought of dropping my pants in front of someone was the biggest problem. I was having some doubts, but my friend kept telling me it would not be that bad. We went to the mall and I stalled some then we finally went to Absolute. I had gotten pierced there before. When we got there, I walked in and told them what I wanted. Luckily, there was only one other customer in there. I had been worried about that kind of too. I could just imagine a room full of people staring at me and giggling because I wanted a genital piercing, but I always worry over the most stupid things. Who cares what other people think anyway? I was doing this for ME, not anyone else, just like the rest of my piercings.

They were always so nice in there and this time they tried exceptionally hard to make me feel very comfortable. I knew they would be real cool about it. They said it wouldn't be that bad and told me about their experiences. So I paid, signed the sheet, and showed my ID then I went and used the bathroom. When I came back we talked about the procedure and healing. I picked out a curved barbell for the jewelry. I had wanted a barbell instead of a captive bead ring.

She went and got the room ready and told me I could come back to the room. So I went and she went over a few things with me and told me I could undress. She left the room and I undressed, putting a towel she had given me over myself. I laid down and felt like I was at the gyno's office, but I felt more comfortable here. She knocked then came back in. She said she was going to numb it, but it probably wouldn't make much of a difference, since it's just a topical one. So she did that and we waited for it to kick in which felt like forever, but she talked to me through out the whole thing. I do not think it really numbed it much, because I couldn't tell a difference. I could still feel everything when she was cleaning the area.

Then finally, she got the receiving tube and was ready to pierce. Breath in and breath out, breath in and breath out *PIERCE*. It did not hurt very much, but it sure woke me up a bit. I have had plenty of piercings. My septum hurt much much worse than this one, but I take pain extremely well. Next thing I knew, jewelry was in and I was ready to get dressed. So she left the room and I got dressed. When I came out my friend was very happy I had gone through with it. He has a prince albert so he sort of knew what it was like to undress in front of someone for a piercing. I tipped the piercer and we went on our way.

I was very happy and glad I did it. I bragged to some close friends about it and the most reactions I got was "ouch, didn't that hurt?! I don't think I could ever do that". I just laughed and said that it wasn't that bad. I really don't notice that it is there much afterwards either. I could sit down just fine and walk fine. I can feel it a little bit if I sit a certain way sometimes. I will wait for the full healing time before I try it out just to be safe.

So far it has been really easy to clean. I haven't bled at all either. So if you want to get a hood piercing done, do not worry so much like I did. It is not as bad as you think it will be. It's a very beautiful piercing. If you live around Bloomington, Illinois check out Absolute Body piercing, they are great and very professional piercers.
