Up until 3 days ago I'd never really considered getting anything more extreme than my nipples pierced. That all changed when I broke up with my boyfriend. Some girls change their hair colour, some go out and have a one night stand....I thought "what the hell, lets get another hole in my body!" I already have my tongue, navel and both nipples pierced and because I work with an airline the idea of anything visible is out of the question. It was out at lunch with the girls and a couple of bottles of wine when I started thinking about genital piercings. At first we all laughed the idea off but a glass or two of wine later, it seemed like a better idea. After sobering up I went to see the Body Piercing Specialists in Newmarket, Auckland who I have used to do all my other piercings. They are the only ones I would trust with my piercings now - they know what they're talking about and I thoroughly recommend them to anyone living in Auckland. They gave me my options and explained the pros and cons of each. I finally decided on a vertical hood piercing with a ring, mainly because they look nicer (in my opinion) and they tend to sit better. Usually I can get my piercing done then and there but because I'd come in quite late in the afternoon and they needed two piercers to do the job they couldn't fit me in until the next day, so I made an appointment for then.

The next morning I went back to get it done. I had never been nervous before any of my other piercings but I was this time - I think it might have been more to do with the idea of lying on a table with no pants on than having a needle stuck into me! Having to wait overnight to get it done also makes you a bit more nervous. It didn't take too long for me to get rid of the nerves though. After a good gossip with Jane (one of the owners of the studio) while the others were preparing the jewellery and the room I finally managed to get into the piercing room and got myself set up on the table and ready to go. Shane is the other owner of the studio and I also had one of the apprentices there to help out. I have to say it was really weird to be lying there with my legs apart having people poking and prodding me but they were really professional and made me feel really comfortable. We spent more time joking and gossiping than we did piercing! The piercing itself took no time at all - Shane spent a lot of time getting the mark in the perfect place and then slid this hollow metal rod (it kind of looked like the end of a ballpoint pen) between my clit and hood so the hood was stretched over it like a drum. That wasn't the most comfortable feeling in the whole world but it wasn't painful. He explained what he was doing the whole time so I had no nasty surprises and then he asked me to take a deep breath in and as I was breathing out he pushed the needle through. I had about 2 seconds of pain and that was it, the piercing settled down immediately. Shane waited a minute or so more me to get over the shock and then slid the jewellery through. With all my other piercings the most horrible part was getting the jewellery through but I didn't even feel it this time. I looked down and I had a very cool brand new piercing !! It looks great and I'm really happy with it. I went to work straight afterwards and I haven't had any problems with sitting down or moving around as some people expect. I can barely feel it unless I want to! Since then I've just been cleaning it religiously with antibacterial liquid soap and I've had no problems so far.

Now for the best bit! After I told my ex about my new piercing he just couldn't resist coming over to see it and well, we just had to test it out! I know you're supposed to wait 4-6 weeks for the thing to heal but I couldn't wait longer than 12 hours! I was not disappointed, and neither was he!! To anyone who is considering a hood piercing I say go for it, you will not regret it! It also makes a great lunchroom conversation topic!

If you have any questions or would like any more information about any of my piercings feel free to email me - I'd be happy to answer any questions.
