I have wanted a genital piercing for a long time. I have my navel pierced, and 2 holes in my ears as well as a tragus. I could not decide on a genital piercing for a long time...I had thought about a hood piercing, but deciding on vertical or horizontal was a big challenge. I leaned towards the vertical, but decided I wanted more of a thrill. I had heard about the dangers of clitoral piercings, how you could loose feeling down there. I wasn't too worried about that, because even though there is a very small chance it could happen, the risk of loosing that sensation would be the next worse thing to dying.

I decided I would go ahead and take the risk. I talked to a couple close friends and my boyfriend about it, and they all said to go for it. I took my boyfriend around to a couple studios to see if I was suited for a clit piercing, and out of three opinions, all three said I was good to go. I didn't really like the first two places we went to, but the third one seemed cool. The guy that owned it was very nice, and seemed to know what he was talking about.

Well, I was going to go ahead and get it done that day...but of course, I got my period. They said they could do it anyway, but I wasn't comfortable with that, so we decided to wait another week or so.

I went back about a week later, and the situation was a little different. The guy that I had talked to previously seemed a little nervous, like he was trying to hide something. I didn't think much of it, and since I wanted my clit pierced SOO badly, I decided to just do it and get it over with.

He took me into the back room, and he let my boyfriend come with us. It was kind of dark, which was ok with me...but I don't think my boyfriend liked it. He has a PA and the studio where he got it done is in California, and he had a wonderful experience dealing with them. I wasn't about to go across the country for a silly piercing though. This place was fine for me!

He had me take my pants and underwear off, and I laid back on the table. He didn't use stirrups or anything, just had me sit in kind of a butterfly position, with my legs apart, but flat on the table. He was in between them, obviously. The first strange thing I noticed was that he didn't use clamps or anything. I had read many stories on BME and I expected the forceps.

He washed his hands, but told me he didn't use gloves because of many people's allergy to latex. I guess I was kind of out of it, since I didn't realize that not many people have latex allergies, and since I didn't, why couldn't he use gloves?

I watched him take the needle out of a sealed package, so that was a good sign. He showed me the 14 gauge ring he was going to use, and told me I could come back to switch it to a 12 if I wanted to. I just said ok cool, and he was ready to go ahead and pierce me.

He just shoved the needle right through, no warning, no receiving tube, no nothing. I screamed, VERY loudly...and when the shock had worn off, I looked at my boyfriend, who was as white as a ghost. I looked down and there was quite a bit of blood- but the piercer said it was very normal. He put the jewelry in, which HURT...and told me to just leave it alone and it would be fine.

I went home, and a couple weeks later, it still wasn't healing well at all. It constantly hurt and stung. I went to another studio, and they said that the jewelry hadn't been sterilized properly, though the needle probably was. He advised me to take it out and start fresh in a few months.

I was horrified, and mad at myself, for not realizing how dangerous it is to get pierced by someone that you haven't really had a chance to get to know them and how they manage their studio. I am not ready to go through that experience again, but maybe someday I will. I just hope no one has to go through anything like I did, or worse. I was lucky enough to be able to take it out and have it heal pretty nicely, with no complications after. I risked a lot, and I was very lucky with my outcome.

Please, if you are thinking about getting any piercing at all, research the studio and the piercer, and ask to talk to people who have gotten similar piercings there. I hope my experience will teach some of you not to make the same mistake I did.
