To this day I'm not exactly sure why I got it done. I think maybe it was just to prove to myself that I could. I never would have thought myself capable of it. One thing is certain though, and that's that now I've done it, my self-confidence and pain tolerance has increased. The thought of physical pain doesn't intimidate me very much anymore. I hope this can be of help to anyone considering this piercing.

I liked the way the reverse PA looked, and I thought the placement would hit the right spots, so I decided to give it a go. I decided to take the train to the shop in Berkeley because I wasn't sure if I would be in decent shape to make the 30 minute drive back home. I went through a lot of preparations to make sure that I would be ready afterwards...I had lined my bed with towels for the infamous nighttime bleeding. I brought a pair of boxers and a pair of briefs and decided to make the decision after the piercing as to which would be more comfortable. It was really weird. My experience with the psychological side of piercings is that for weeks leading up to the piercing, I'm filled with an almost electric excitement. When the day actually comes, I become extremely nervous. Almost to the point of wanting to back out. When I actually got to the shop, I was in an almost trance like state. It's the final acceptance, I think. So I when up to the counter and told the counter person what I wanted. The shop was really busy so I was told it would be about 20 minutes. This is probably a piercing I should have made an appointment for, but right up until the needle actually went through, I wasn't sure I'd go through with it.
After about 20 minutes, the piercer came out and told me to come on into the piercing room. Christ, I was nervous. I noticed that there was an autoclave in the room, and that all of the tools were coming out of autoclave pouches and looked nice and clean, so I guess that excuse was ruined for me. He actually was very honest with me and said that he had only done maybe 2 or 3 RPAs before. I really appreciated the honesty. It made me able to trust him when he said he was sure he could do it, though. He then started to tell me a few of the differences between a reverse and regular PA, the big difference being pain. He drew me a diagram showing how the urethra on males usually lines up against the bottom of the glans, and because there is less tissue it's generally much less painful. Then he took a look at my anatomy, and we found that the urethra was almost directly centered through my glans. He basically said that it would hurt either way and to get the one I wanted. There was no doubt that I wanted the reverse, and this kind of solidified it. He used a toothpick and marked the placement with some kind of white ink. He then told me he was going to insert the receiving tube. He told me that he recommended looking away. I didn't really care to, but changed my tune when after sneaking a peek at his apprentice. His apprentice kind of nodded his head urging me to look away, so I took his advice. The receiving tube wasn't very bad. Kind of uncomfortable. Definitely not something I had really felt before. I could feel my urethra stretching, but it wasn't really painful. At this point, I wasn't even nervous anymore. It's kind of odd. He then told me to take a deep breath and on the exhale, he would pierce. I remember taking the breath and feeling a really strong rush of burning pain at my penis. It felt similar to someone holding something extremely hot to it. I remember kind of grunting the word "motherfucker", and by that time I could see the needle through the top of my dick and sticking out through the receiving tube at my urethra. It looked kind of odd to see a needle through your dick, but I was greatly relieved it was over. He inserted the ring, cleaned up, gave me a soda and I was out. The pain was intense, but quick and certainly not unbearable. It's always amazing how little it hurt compared to what you made it out to be in your mind.
I used the same aftercare method I always use which works well for me. I clean well with mild soap in the morning and do a sea salt soak at night. Keeps it clean without irritating it. Sexually, the piercing hasn't done much for me, but I still enjoy the way it looks. I have noticed increased sensation after stretching it to 8 gauge, so I'm hoping I'll get more sensation as I keep stretching.......
Some tips/things that worked for me:
- Briefs. No question in my mind. Boxers let your junk bounce around and it feels none to pleasant.
- I'd recommend using some type of constricting ring around the base of your penis before the procedure. I used one because I had heard the piercing was bloody. I had barely any bleeding during or after the piercing. Whether that was a result of the ring or something else, I don't know.
- Take the next day off of work. I was ABLE to work the next day, but it wasn't pleasant. Just to be good to yourself, I'd recommend either scheduling a day off or planning your piercing to be done where you have the next day of 2 to take it easy.
- When you first resume having sex/masturbating, wear a condom. Even if you're not worried about bacteria or diseases entering an open wound, the condom will keep the piercing straight and immobile which is much less painful during healing......
Hope this helps someone
