Today I finally decided to do my pubic piercing, which I have been wanting to get done for some time now. I came to know about this piercing from this site, which I regularly use as a reference on what other piecing I would like to get done. I felt that getting a pubic piercing would complement my other piercings, specifically the genital ones.

A quick background on my piercings - I have 15 in all, 5 of which are genital. I also have my prince albert, apadravya, frenum and scrotum, and now, pubic, as well as eyebrow, nose, tongue (twice), both nipples (twice each) and ear. Of these piercings I have done about half I have done myself.

Before you start saying that it is stupid to do your own, I have to say that I have a clean, sterile area to do these procedures, the correct tools and approved sterile piercing needles. I also know one of the local body pierces and talk to him prior to doing such work on my body, to get expert advice and knowledge.

Also before I do any new piercings I do a lot of research on what can go wrong, correct placement of the jewellery and those sort of things.

After completing my research I decided to do my new pubic piercing with a 14 gauge catheter needle and use a 14 gauge SSS barbell, 20mm in length. I plan to later change this bar to a 10 gauge barbell once it has healed to a safe degree.

My next step was to then prepare my piercing equipment and workspace. Firstly I prepared to sterilize my forceps and the jewellery which was to be used. I did this by firstly boiling the forceps and barbell (with the balls removed) in a solution of dettol and hot water for about 30 minutes. This was then followed up by soaking for 5 minutes in a straight dettol solution, then a further 5 minutes in a saline solution (which the salt had reached saturation levels), then finally a rinsed it in clean, hot water. This may not be the best method, however, I have found it to be quite satisfactory and have not had any issues.

After allowing the barbell, balls and forceps to dry I screwed one of the balls back on the bar. I then cleaned the site to be pierced, which was done in multiple steps. --Just a quick note here - I have a groomed / shaved pubic region with little hair remaining, which helps reduce the chance of contamination of the site-- Firstly I rubbed some dettol over the piercing site, then followed that with a saline solution, then finally wiped the site with a briemarpak skin cleansing swab. Next I prepared the needle, then clamped the forceps in place. Once I was satisfied with placement I pushed the needle through the flesh, then retracted the needle from the catheter, leaving the catheter in the piercing hole.

Next, I placed the barbell in the catheter and removed the catheter from the piecing hole, then screwed the second ball on the barbell. I was very happy with the placement and look of my new piecing, and found it to be quite painless (by far less pain then what I was expecting, and probably the least painfully one to date). There was no bleeding from the site of the piercing either, and it has remained very clean with no leakage whatsoever. In all it took about 45 minutes, most of which was spent preparing the equipment for the piercing. The actual piercing took less then 5 minutes, from clamping to bar being screwed in place.

I will post photos of the all the different stages of the procedure in the image gallery later today.

In all, I found it to be a fast and painless procedure, which looks quite good. However, I recommend that unless you have some piercing knowledge, and correct tools, that you get a professional to do the piercing for you (or any other piercing for the safety of your body).

At the time of typing this account my piercing was less then an hour old. The after care regime the I will be following will be the same as what I have used for my other genital and body piercings. I have found the I have had excellent success by washing the piercing with gamophen medicated soap (which has triclosan as the active ingredient) twice daily, ensuring that the soap enters the piercing hole, then thoroughly rinsing with fresh water followed up by drying it with tissues (or toilet paper, but make sure it is a plain, unscented variety) I expect this piercing to heal in about 3 weeks time based on my other piecings that I have already had done.

Now I'm off to the BMEzine website to see what other piercings I would like to do, or get done for me. Happy piercing all!!
