Having been the happy owner of a Prince Albert for about a year and a half, I finally got my second genital mod three days ago..

I wasn't sure what to get as whilst I knew that I wanted more genital piercings, I didn't want to get anything that I was not going to be 100% happy with – I only have one set of genitals and I don't want to do anything too drastic to them.

Now, as I have stated previously, I already have a Prince Albert and I wasn't especially keen on any other mod that involved going through the glans of the penis.

I didn't want it to look crowded and besides, having a needle shoved through it once was quite enough for me.

I liked the idea of perhaps starting a ladder project on the base of the penis or perhaps having some sort of scrotal piercing or perhaps a dydoe, although I didn't fancy my chances of healing the latter one successfully due to being uncircumcised – I would imaging the movement would be problematic.

So moving on from that, I started to consider a pubic piercing.

It made sense as it wouldn't be on the penis itself, it wouldn't leave any really noticeable markings if it went wrong and it wouldn't suffer from movement too much as pubic regions are pretty stable and don't tend to move of their own accord.

Having decided on what to get, I approached my then fiancιe with the idea who was less than impressed and was pretty adamant .that I was not getting it done.

She is fairly modded (including a genital piercing of her own) but is more of a tattoo person than a piercing person, whereas I am the reverse.

The ultimatum was that if I got the mod then she would never sleep with me again.

Now serious or not, given that this was a person that at the time I was intending to marry and spend the rest of my life with, I wasn't really in a position to argue, so I put my plans on ice for the time being, maybe hoping that I could convince her in time.

Unfortunately I was unable to convince her but the relationship did end recently and with that, my thoughts turned to my proposed public region and the notion that since she had forbidden me to have it pierced, going to get it pierced as soon as possible would be both highly therapeutic and healing for me, giving me an additional sense of closure in the relationship.

Now I can't speak for all artists, but it has been my own personal experience that a good number of female piercers are either not comfortable doing genital work on males or not comfortable doing it in general and I must stress again – this is just been my own personal experience.

That being said, it was a female piercer who originally did my Prince Albert and I approached her regarding doing my pubic piercing.

Whilst interested in doing it for me, she wouldn't be able to do it for several days due to family commitments, so I decided to head into town to my "usual" piercing studio (Nirvana Body Piercing, Glasgow) and see if the owner, John was working that day.

Once I got there I was told that he was not working that day but would be in the following day and weekend and the woman working asked me what work I was interested in having.

I knew from asking her previously that she didn't do genital work, so I explained to her that it wasn't a Prince Albert or any form of penile piercing, but was a pubic surface piercing.

She didn't have any personal issue doing it, but the main piercer John hadn't taken her through genital work so she didn't feel comfortable doing it from a professional point of view, something I had no problem with whatsoever.

I did offer the job to the male apprentice who was working that day, but informed that as a "wee boy" (he was 17) he wouldn't be able to do it – bless!

Now, round the corner from Nirvana there is the Glasgow Piercing Studio.

I knew that the only artist working there was a young girl (Rachel) who I had dealt with before, so I again had the aforementioned concern about female piercers and genital work.

I had previously had my septum pierced at GPS by Jacqueline and had Rachel reopen the hole after the jewelery came out in my sleep and did a subsequent jewelery change on it, so I was comfortable with the shop.

The shop itself, like most piercing studios I have been to has a front facing room that you immediately enter and has padded seats for customers to wait and a few glass display cabinets with various types and sizes of jewelery, presumably so that people can come in and point and go "I want this!" or something along those lines, who knows.

When I arrived, there were quite a few waiting and I was dismayed about possibly having a long wait only to be told that I was out of luck, but it appeared that the folk waiting were split into two groups – the first was two guys who left when their friend came out and the second group was three girls who were all getting pierced.

After the second girl came out, they offered me the chance to go on in whilst the third made her mind up what to get pierced, so I took the opportunity to ask Rachel if she was comfortable doing genital work

I was relieved to hear her say that she had no problem whatsoever doing it but didn't advertise it in the shop or the front window as there are a lot of "less than upmarket bars and pubs in the area and to advertise genital work would attract negative attention from drunks or passing idiots".

So, having been told what I wanted to hear, I went back out to wait whilst the third girl went in and got her tongue pierced.

After she came out and left with her group of friends, I went into the back room and whilst filling out the disclaimer with my name and details, had a chat with Rachel about what it was I wanted and whether it would be best to do it with a bar, ring or PTFE.

Given that there would be at least SOME movement in the area and that it would be surface piercing, she decided to go for a PTFE bar with steel balls on the end.

It never made much difference to me what I was pierced with so long as whatever was used gave it the best chance of healing, so I went with her recommendation, what with her being the experienced one and all...

So we went round to the back of the piercing area and I lay down on my couch and dropped my jeans and boxers.

Now I have absolutely no problem getting my genitals out for someone to pierce them, but I DO have a problem with the fact that the Glasgow Piercing Studio is quite a fair walk from the bus stop, I was wearing relatively tight jeans and I am a fast walker...

I made a little joke about it and she told me not to worry as she had "seen and smelt everything" (and based on stories I have heard from other piercers, I absolutely believe her) but much to my relief there was no sweat or odour – February is pretty cold in the UK.

There is a lot of controversy about whether to use any sort of topical anesthetic for piercings and that is a discussion I don't intend to get into as I have had piercings both with and without, but when I saw her get out the spray I just decided to go with it for this time.

She did hold a bit of tissue over my penis whilst she numbed my pubic area and I like to think this was from kindness rather than hygiene reasons – that spray is cold!

As an interesting aside, before leaving the house I made a point of shaving around the base of my penis and some of my pubic reason to make it easier to pierce.

I did ask her if it made much of a difference and she said that it made a "huge difference".

It might seem an obvious thing to do, but I just thought I would point this out before continuing.

Now that the spraying was done, it was time for the actual piercing.

I must admit I wasn't nervous – it seems the more I get the easier they are, but this one did feel unusual as I could feel the needle pushing it's way through the skin rather than any overwhelming sense of pain.

It was soon after this point that I felt a damp wet sensation running down by me scrotum and between my legs and my immediate thought was that I must have been bleeding pretty badly, so I braved myself enough to look down and didn't see any blood whatsoever, so I can only conclude that it was some of the anesthetic spray, although why it took so long for my to feel it run down I can only hazard a guess at.

Anyway, now that the tube was through, Rachel threaded the PTFE through the tube and then snipped the ends down to size, leaving enough room for a bit of "give" for cleaning and swelling.

Feeling her manipulating something through my skin and then cutting it before fitting the first ball on was quite a strange sensation – kind of like a tugging and it was the same when she removed the tube and then fitted the other ball onto the PTFE.

After she finished, the tale came to it's logical conclusion as I carefully pulled up my boxers and jeans and then went round to the other side of the piercing room to settle the bill.

She wasn't quite sure how to price it as it was a mixture of a surface piercing and a genital piercing, but she seemed to settle on £35 and I was relatively happy with the price.

I thought about trying to haggle down to £30, but I am not sure on pricing myself and besides, even if it WAS a little bit expensive, I was paying with money that I had saved up for a wedding that was not now going to happen so I considered myself more than eligible to treat myself!

This happened three days ago and the past two of those have been spend visiting and staying with friends so it has been a bit hard to clean it properly but when I came home tonight, I ran a bath and gave it a nice soak and cleaned the edges with cotton tips.

The entry and exit holes are a little bit red and tender and there was a tiny bit of white lymph to clean off them, but nothing to write home about really – quite uneventful so far.

I know that there is a chance that my latest addition might reject or migrate and I know to take it out myself when there are signs that it looks likely, but here is hoping that it won't come to that – I like it too much already to remove it!
