I had it done 2 days ago, and I want to share my story while it's still fresh in my mind. It's interesting, I began reading these PA stories on BME after I got mine done – go figure. I did use BME's wiki to find out a little more information about the PA, though.
My story begins about 4-5 years ago. I go to a 3-day festival every year, and there is a large outdoor showering/sauna facility that I love going to. It was there that I saw my first PA. I was terrified! I nearly walked into a wall. I, like so many others who have written their stories, thought that a penis piercing was something that I'd never do. Ever. But getting shocked like I had been sparked a tiny fire in my mind, which increased over time.
Fast forward to a little over a year ago. I was at Burning Man when I spoke to a guy who had a PA and his nipples pierced. It was from him that I learned that the piercing itself could increase stimulation during intercourse. This really intrigued me; not only was I beginning to like the look of it, the idea that it could be erotically pleasuring was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
I began to ask my girlfriend what she thought about the idea of me getting it done. She of course said no-way! She was a bit conservative when it came to sexuality. We had been together for over 6 years when I began to ask her. She would say things like "why would you want to do that to your body?" and "I wouldn't want that in me..." So to my chagrin, I put the idea in the very back of my mind.
About four months ago, a week after I had started Graduate School, we ended our relationship. This rekindled my curiosity of getting my PA. Finally, I thought!!! I began to ask my friends and family what they thought, partially for support and partially for shock value. Of course my parents weren't too akin to the idea.
Two days ago, after an emotional roller-coaster ride with a new girl (who was supportive of my desire for a PA, but also not really wanting to be with me for some other guy) I decided to get it done. I called my ex-girlfriend of over 7 years to join me, because after we broke up she said she'd hold my hand while I had it done.
The piercing itself:
So I went to my local piercing shop. I walked in and proclaimed my intentions. They were friendly, and mostly helpful. I was pierced by a woman named Marilyn, who had lots of experience piercing some major mods in her lifetime.
She talked me through the procedure, told me that she was going to pierce me with a 6 ga needle and I was going straight to a 6 ga ring. Ok I thought, what I had read online had talked about people starting at 8, 10, or even 12, but usually ending up at 6. I figured what the hell? Then I saw the needle and began to wonder if it was such a wise idea.
Marilyn assured me it wouldn't be any different than getting a 10ga, and I'd heal a little faster too. Fine by me. She began by measuring and inking my penis for aiming purposes. I'm really sensitive around my urethra, in fact it's been a childhood fear of mine, having something stuck in it was one of the last things I thought I'd ever do. I was really sensitive to her marking the line with a toothpick. I told her so and she chuckled. I dealt with my anxiety by continuously cracking jokes.
Next she told me she was going to test the receiving tube – this bothered me because I remembered reading the receiving tube was quite uncomfortable, on top of my childhood fear of having things put in my urethra, I was not too keen on the idea. Oh well, she's the boss and I didn't say too much because I wanted her to do a good job.
Turns out, after trying to place the 6 ga receiving tube, I have a small urethra and it wouldn't fit. So she went to a 10 ga. Fine by me, still though, the receiving tube burned a little, and certainly was uncomfortable inside my ever-shrinking member. I quipped that I thought I was going to be inverted by the end of this whole ordeal.
Next is all a blur, she replaced the 10 ga receiving tube, I closed my eyes and squeezed my ex-girlfriend's hand as she pierced, and then put the ring in. It happened so quickly. It was very intense, it hurt a fair amount. Although I didn't whelp, my whole body tensed when it happened.
I heard about what I had to do for aftercare (although I couldn't pay attention, little did I know this is due to that endorphin rush people always write about), paid, and went to my ex-girlfriend's house where I sat down and drank some water. I decided to check out my piercing, and to my astonishment it was bleeding a lot. A lot! Whew it was weird, my ex-girlfriend's roommate came down to check me out and see what I had done. She too commented on the amount of blood. I wrapped myself in paper towels, and drove home.
When I got home I noticed that the blood had soaked through the paper napkins. I began to wipe the blood off, and it was watching a squirt of blood exit my urethra, almost like semen exiting at orgasm (but with less force) that I began to freak out a little.
Here's where my experience might help someone who is getting this done because I wish I had known of this myself:
It's ok to let your penis fill with blood and coagulate inside. I didn't realize this and so I was freaking out. I took a shower, peed, and bled a lot more. I called the piercing studio and they told me to put pressure on it or I would have to go back in and get stretched to an 8 ga ring, which she told me would kind of suck. With that in mind, I decided I would do my best to mitigate the bleeding. I held pressure off-and-on for over an hour, watching the blood slowly coagulate inside the tip of my urethra. I took pictures of what this looked like and will try to post them.
It's this that I think people say causes the burn for your first piss. When you pee it pushes through the scab that has developed inside your penis – it's really weird to see a chunk of mostly solid blood get pushed out of your penis when you're peeing. However, this is part of the healing process. If you're bleeding, I recommend you holding your penis until it coagulates and blood won't ooze out anymore. Remember though, a freshly dried scab is tender, and can open up easily and allow more blood to flow – so you have to be patient to allow it to coagulate fully.
After bleeding heavily the first evening and the next morning, my bleeding has virtually stopped. Now I am able to move and stuff without a bunch of paper-towels stuffed down my drawers. I really like the look and the size of my 10 ga silver ring hanging off the end of my penis. After being scared by the bleeding initially, I am really beginning to like this piercing. I will try to give an update later on how it is healing/coming along.
1 Month Later... 12/30/2007
So the healing process is going quite well. Each week I am able to tell a difference in how much I've healed since the piercing. After I clean/soak/clean the crusties I am almost totally pain free (although I feel the opening of my urethra is more exposed to rubbing on my clothes) and completely mobile. However, given several hours of not cleaning, then leakage forms. The ring naturally rotates back and forth with movement, but the leakage dries into crusties and they burn when they are pushed back into the piercing. My advice is to keep this clean. You don't have to all out clean/salt soak to get the crusties moist/easy-to-clean. You can just hold the ring under warm water for about a minute, and then wipe the dried excrement (crusties) away.
I am also thinking that the 3/4" ring was pierced too far back. When not aroused it's fine, but I swell a lot when I have an erection and it's obvious that my urethra has stretched at these times of intense arousal to the point of intensely pleasurable pain. I don't, however, want a stretched urethra so I will be going back to the studio to look at switching hardware to possibly a curved barbell, or if they carry a CBR that is 7/8" I might do that too. I'm wondering if peeing is worse with a curved BB as I can stand and pee with the CBR?
Well I hope this guide helps you.
