If you've been thinking about getting a certain member of the royal family added to your collection of piercings, I say do it!

I've always thought about getting a Prince Albert, ever since I got my very first ear piercing years ago. After the first one, as many of you will know, you become addicted. The whole process of contemplating, researching and then doing is worth the result. AND saving the money to get the piercing at a clean, well-established environment is WORTH the WAIT. Self-piercing is not the cleanest, nor the safest. Go to a professional...

It wasn't bad, it was great! As you may, or may not, have heard; the most uncomfortable (but by no means painful) part of the PA piercing procedure is the receiving tube. Just remember, the receiving tube is yours (and the piercer's) best friend. This will keep the needle from coming into contact with any other tissues on the way out of the penis. The actual "needle-through-penis-skin" portion of the piercing was INTENSE, and made me catch my breath, but was no more painful than a cartilage-ear piercing. I expected a lot worse, and was pleasantly surprised. Unlike a cartilage piercing, genital skin has more elasticity and, as a result, does not continue to sting or feel hot after the ring is in place and the piercing is finished. I found that as soon as the needle was removed, all the pain/stinging and discomfort subsided - because Jenna is so quick, the actual pain probably lasted 2.8 seconds (no joke!); and I walked without pain or problem after the piercing.

After discussion with my piercer, I decided to go with an 8 gauge captive-bead ring (surgical steel). The minimum gauge for this piercing is 10 and NO SMALLER! Otherwise you could risk tearing or migrating. Imagine a cheese slicer and you will no longer be afraid of going big with your gauge; the larger the surface area of the ring/barbell, the lower the chance of tear or migration. Trust me, you're going to feel pain anyways, so why not go with a bigger gauge right from the start, rather than risk a tear and be in excruciating pain afterwards... seems hardly worth the risk.

Be prepared for the aftercare. Keep your newly pierced penis wrapped for the first day, especially if you're walking around. I was all day today and found that it did bleed a little. And for the first day, wear some 'form-fitting' underwear like boxer-briefs that have a defined pouch. The pouch is necessary to keep your junk from jiggling too much, but also to keep from applying too much added pressure to your newly pierced penis. I know you've probably heard that it stings like an S.O.B when you first pee. Well, I'm here to prove that myth a lie. I just felt a little more pressure while peeing than normal and a slight discomfort, but other than that it's ok. Drink lots of water (the recommended dose of 8-10 glasses is good!). Drinking water keeps you hydrated and reduces the acidity level in your urine; by doing so, your initial peeing will feel better than worse, as it won't sting as much.

Hot showers are this piercing's best friend. The steam and heat from the shower helps to loosen blood and crusties trapped in the urethra and allows for it to be secreted. Follow this up by a fairly lengthy warm sea-salt soak and you'll feel amazing! I sure do! I had a 20-30 min shower.. Tried to keep as much soap out of the area, and then followed up with a 10 min sea-salt soak. You DO NOT need to clean with saline after you urinate. Your urine is sterile and helps to clean the piercing, as long as you do not have any urinary or bladder infections. REMEMBER... do not compromise your piercing with alcohol or drugs; it'll just make it hurt more in the end. Keep everyone else's fluids away from your piercing. Hep A/B/C or any STD is SOOOOO not worth it!

AS MUCH AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD TO USE ANTI-BACTERIAL SOAP, DO NOT!! TRUST ME. ANTI-BACTERIAL SOAPS CAN OFTEN CONTAIN CHEMICALS WHICH DRY UP THE TISSUES; THIS IS THE LAST THING YOU WANT FOR ANY PIERCING. THIS CAN CAUSE CRUST, DRYNESS AND/OR ITCHYNESS. The best thing for any fresh piercing is warm soaks (to draw out any impurities in the wound) and SALINE solution, as it is just like the liquid that naturally occurs in the body. YOU DO NOT WANT TO INTRODUCE ANY FOREIGN CREAMS, SOAPS OR LOTIONS in, around or near your piercing! You wouldn't put it on a cut or scrape would you?? Then why would you put it on a piercing... Petroleum/gel-based ointments such as Neosporin, Polysporin, Hydrocortisone, etc. suffocate the piercing and can hinder healing time. Just use sea-salt soaks and Saline and you'll heal and feel good in no time!

I went to Instinct Adornment in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. If you ever get a chance to go here, do it. The atmosphere is amazing, comfortable and EXTREMELY clean (And I mean, she is OCD type of clean, which is what you want when it comes to piercing... remember a piercing is just a wound with jewellery in it.) I've gone to other places before to see what they're like, and none have impressed me as much as Instinct. Every piercing I've gotten done has had a quick healing time; and since I discovered this parlour 4 years ago, I've been going ever since and am a loyal customer of Jenna's. She is AMAZING and is so easy to talk to. No matter how personal a piercing, (and the PA is pretty personal), there is little or no awkwardness. She is very talkative and walks you through exactly what she is doing during the entire process so that you are never kept in the dark.

I highly recommend this piercing, and even better if you get it at Instinct Adornment (I hear Jenna is the best cock piercer... well, at least in Kamloops anyway!)... Just remember, if you're going to get it, ask the piercer everything first: how they pierce, what jewellery they pierce with, the gauge you're going to use, sanitizing/autoclave procedures and of course, SAFE AFTERCARE! And above all, when going for such a piercing, remember to BREATHE when you're lying on the table (or chair) awaiting the prickling moment! (No pun intended!)

If you've already been thinking about it, then you should be doing it...

BEST OF LUCK,

-Justin.

P.S. please be smart about you're piercing. There is nothing nastier or more horrible than an infected, pissed-off piercing. Be gentle, be clean, and don't fuss over it too much. If you over clean you risk just as much infection/irritation as you do by not cleaning it (trust me, I know, I've had many piercings). Have fun!
