My recommendations for someone who's going to get a PA:

1. Trim your nether regions: long hairs get caught in the tape for the glove, and it's just nicer for the piercist.

2. Take a soda and some candy (chocolate is a good choice) to have after the piercing.

3. Make sure the ring diameter/bar length is going to be large enough, talk with your piercist!

4. drink some water beforehand (avoid acidic beverages as they may sting a little) to help you pee afterward.

I was talked into getting a PA by my wife (open relationship) who had recently been with a guy who had a PA, and spoke very highly of the piercing. This is my second piercing; the first was a tongue ring which I had for about 4 years before I took it out due to some dental complications.

The shop that we (my wife and I) went to "Bound by Design", where my wife had received nipple and hood piercings, is a good shop in downtown Denver. Tiffany who also did my wife's hood piercing had recently had wrist surgery and had not yet performed a PA since her surgery and wasn't absolutely sure she could pierce a tough skin/urethra, and confirmed my desire to try anyway before purchase. My wife and I did have to wait for another customer to be pierced first as well as for the sterilization of jewelry. After getting in the piercing room I was asked to remove my shorts and have a seat on the piercing bench/table. Tiffany cleaned the exterior, and made a mark which I approved of. Tiffany then had me lay down and instructed me of the ways I was and was not allowed to convulse; IE legs squeezing together as opposed to rising up or kicking. She talked to me while cleaning the inside and inserting the receiving tube which was uncomfortable. The piercing hurt quite a bit more than I had been led to believe (about a 7 with 10 being the worst pain in my life) but Tiffany was AMAZINGLY fast at inserting the jewelry and captive ball. I don't recall if she was talking while inserting the jewelry. Tiffany had brought a 5/8" and a 3/4" ring, and used the latter. Tiffany then carefully taped a glove with some gauze around me.

After she was done she went over the after care instructions (salt soaks 3x/day, antibacterial soap in the shower, pee LOTS and right away) and the guarantee with my wife after which we both needed to lie down and recover. I'm not usually bothered by needles or blood, and donate blood whenever I get the chance, but knowing what a change this was to my manhood, I wasn't quite up to standing yet. Tiffany understood and we chilled out in the piercing room till we were ready to go. I highly recommend taking a soda and candy bar to consume afterward for increasing blood sugar levels.

The first pee was nerve racking; there was some blood, and I constricted the flow a bit to minimize the pain. After peeing and applying a new glove I laid down for a while; my wife and I were planning on going to aikido later that night, but I wasn't feeling up to it, so we stayed in and watched some movies. I spent 2 more days mostly resting, and took it generally easy for about a week during which time I wore a glove w/ gauze taped around my Willy. Significant bleeding occurred for about 48 hours and the partly congealed blood on the piercing was quite disturbing despite knowing that it was going to happen. There was some bleeding for about a week.

Nocturnal erections were somewhat painful and sometimes caught on the glove in uncomfortable ways. After about a week I was able to masturbate, though it was somewhat painful. Part of the pain was that the ring was too small, which was also slowing the healing process.

On the positive side, my wife LOVES the look of the piercing, as well as the sensation during coitus.

After determining that the ring was too small I returned to Tiffany (at 2 weeks) and had a 1" ring inserted which is a much better fit and is easier to clean. The change of jewelry hurt more than the initial piercing, and the removal of the original jewelry was complicated by difficulty in applying the jewelry tool without pinching the skin near the entrance and exit sites. After the jewelry change out I was ready to go, not the least bit light headed, and walking the 3 blocks to where my car was parked was no problem.

After waiting about another week for healing, my wife and I gave it a test run (with condom) which wasn't a complete success. The size of the ring makes it difficult to insert and also causes internal pressure and/or twisting.

It's now been 6 weeks since the original piercing, and despite trying a variety of positions the pain becomes too intense before I can come.

Tomorrow is the next day that tiffany works, so I'll be trying out a curved barbell possibly with a larger gauge. If this doesn't work it'll probably be quits for this piercing despite my new found appreciation of the aesthetics.
