It was December of 1988 - my fiance had just headed back to Oregon with two labia piercings I had performed on her a couple of days earlier. By the next time I saw her she had performed two more piercings on her inner labia herself. I had picked out my ring a couple of days earlier - it was a 3/8" fine gold ring. I would wash them off in the shower and use dial soap to lather up my piercing. I learned very quickly to make sure I got plenty of soap and water to use as lubrication when rotating the ring - doing it dry was difficult and painful. The tenderness went away after about a week, along with the "crusties". Full healing took several weeks, and I continued to rotate the ring on a daily basis until it no longer "got stuck".

I kept that ring in for about 8 years. A new girlfriend wanted a ring with a bit more heft to it so she could really feel it inside of her and bought me a 1/2" 14 gage ring. I've since used a variety of rings through the same piercing going up to 3/4". I have found that larger diameter rings are not good for long term wearing, at least with the piercing I now have. They stick out too far and pull too much on the flesh. To wear a larger ring I feel I need to have a 2nd piercing with the exit hole another 1/3" lower. At the moment I have no plans to get pierced again.

I have never had a potential lover freak out at the sight of it, though one or two have said it gets in the way of properly performing a blowjob. Actually, I have found that letting a woman know I have a PA is a pretty good way to get her into bed - they are all curious. The ones that aren't curious just want to feel a ring inside them again.
