Now I have nine unnatural holes in my body, but until last October I only had one 10 guage hoop in each ear. I wanted to do something more, but the only piercing I'd ever had an interest in was a Prince Albert, and having no previous experience...I was more than a little iffy about a needle down below. However, I knew I really wanted one, so I set out to find a good studio in Athens.

The story on how I decided to go with a PA goes back to my freshman year of high school. One of my good friends was a body piercer, and brought in some catalogs and magazines for people to look through. I just happened to flip through the one containing male genital piercings, and the Prince Al stuck in my mind. At first I thought it was pretty revolting, but after a few months of consideration, it started to grow on me until I knew that it was something I'd have to get done. So I patiently awaited my 18th birthday, only to find that I didn't trust any piercing parlor in my hometown to do what I wanted. But I was going off to school in Athens pretty soon, so I decided to wait.

Everywhere I went in Athens was extremely clean and professional, but given the circumstances, I wanted a little more than that. I didn't know that Junkman's did piercings, but after one conversation with Randy (the piercer), I'd set up an appointment. Apart from being professional, he's also very sociable and friendly. He thought it was a little strange that this was my first major piercing, but thought it was a good place to start too.

The next Tuesday I went in (along with a couple of the guys from my dorm, who wanted to somewhat bear witness to the event), and spent some time getting psyched up while Randy prepared. This included talking to a girl working the makeup counter who wanted to know what else I'd had done before this. When I told her that my only other piercings were my ears, she simply said "You've got balls." I went with a 10-ga. 7/8" hoop. After dropping my pants in the back room and getting comfortable, the cleaning process began. You don't know discomfort until you've had a Q-Tip in your urethra, but that was really the worst part of it. The actual piercing involved me getting completely and totally relaxed while the receiving tube (which also goes in the urethra, and is about as unnerving as the Q-Tip, except in a cold steel kind of way) and needle were lined up, taking a deep breath, letting it out, and enduring about 5 seconds of the most intense sensation of my life. Not pain, just really intense. After that, Randy let me rest for a moment before putting the hoop through, which was also a really intense (and really COOL!) feeling. Wrap it up in gauze and a rubber glove, wait while one of the guys who came with me got his tongue pierced. Then I got some mild antibacterial soap and walked back to the dorm.

Which wasn't exactly the best idea. Walking hurt, running was out of the question, and a blood stain was forming on my jeans. I got back, changed clothes and took off the soaked gauze and dripping glove. For the rest of the day, I relaxed. For about the next week, it bled, not as badly as that first day, but still bleeding. It hurt to pee and sitting down was a requirement. But after about two months of two showers a day and occasionally warm water soaks, it was pretty much healed and happy and fully functional again.

The only disturbing thing about the healing process (other than the bleeding) is that since the area around the piercing swells, you feel like you have a continual semi-erection. At least that's how it went for me. The soap hurts when you work it through the piercing at first, too. And, speaking from experience, ALWAYS be sure you get all the crusties off before you turn the hoop. Those little buggers are sharp!

Apart from getting me addicted to the piercing experience (9 holes, as i said before, and 5 scars from other, closed piercings), the PA made me a minor celebrity in my dorm. And yes, my girlfriend does like it. It's still my favorite piercing, even if it's not exactly visible. In March I switched to a 5/8" 8-ga. black niobium hoop and am currently waiting for a new 6-ga. banana barbell to arrive. It doesn't hurt that much to have done, and it's worth the pain in the end! I'd recommend it to anyone, regardless of previous experience (or lack thereof).
