Doing DIY south of the border - A story of my scrotum piercing
At A Glance Author dminboy Contact dminboy@bme.anon When Two years ago Artist myself Studio my home Location Ireland After getting my first piercing (labret which is now stretched to 6mm) done I thought that would be it. But like most people I got the 'itch', my lip wasn't enough, so it evolved to nipples and ears and even a DIY forearm surface piercing (twice). Still the itch lingered, as I was finished college and looking for a job which requires meeting face to face with clients, so any more facial or above collar piercing was out of the question or else of was out of work!
As the nipples were already done I had to go further south, my belly button was not of interest to me, so I traveled further. I also had an interest in genital piercing, particularly a PA piercing but never had the courage to go through with it, the pain and I don't know if I have the confidence to allow someone to pierce it.
A female friend had done her own DIY genital piercing so it gave me the courage. After reading other IAM accounts of DIY piercing I decided that I was going to pierce myself, but not a PA, it would be a bit to tricky I reckon, so I decided on the scrotum, a vertical bar in the middle. I planned to do it when I returned home at the weekend from college, I arrived home about 9 o'clock at night. I had already had 1.6mm piercing needles, also handy to have at the ready for the times when you get bored.
I prepared the area where I was going to do it (my bedroom), cleaned the bar I was going to use. Laid everything I was going to use (needle, tissue, marker, disinfective and clamp) out on a side locker. The moment of truth was almost upon me, was I or was I not going to go through with it. I played around with the placement of the jewellery and when I was finally happy I marked it. I clamped the position, the nerves where starting to kick in, so I went through the process in my head, needle through, pull out, insert the bar into plastic tube and pull through, sounds easy ugh!
I have gone this far not to do it, so I took the needle out of its sealed packet, checking one last time that the clamp is on the right spot, I decided at this point to push the needle up from underneath, the time has come. I put the point of the needle to the spot, took a deep breath and pushed through, time seemed to slow for that instance, I saw the needle point come through the other side, little or no pain.
I was astonished that the pain was subliminal and had to check it went through fully. Once satisfied I removed the needle and put the bar in the plastic insert, and pulled it through, this to my surprise hurt a little more but the job was done. I cleaned up the piercing, some blood but nothing to worry about, screwed on the ball and admired and smiled at my handy work thinking I was finished, but alas, I was not.
I suddenly got the urge why have one when I could have two. Making a snap decision and the adrenalin flowing I decided to do a ring on my right of my scrotum, slightly higher up than the bar. Before I knew it I had it marked and clamped and washed the jewellary I was going to use, went through the same procedure and there you have it, I had two piercing for the one I thought I was going to do. But looking in the mirror and down at myself and noticed that the ring looks a bit odd and unbalanced, there was only one way to correct this, remove it? My fear had gone or the adrenalin was definitely pumping, I could have bottled and sold the stuff. Again I went through the process on the left side of my scrotum.
Once I cleaned up the area, I took a good look in the mirror and was delighted that I now had three scrotum piercings, and especially that I had done them myself. Unfortunately one of the rings has fallen out and got lost and by the time I was unable to get a replacement the hole had closed up. I have been meaning to put it back in to the original spot, but no time on my hand it will have to wait, I am currently in the process of stretching my ear, which is good fun.
If you are thinking of doing any DIY piercing I would recommend taking some time to do some research, reading other peoples experiences, have some decent equipment and jewellery and if it is to tricky get it done professionally, all my other piercings (except forearm and earlobe stretch) have been done this way and I have always been happy with them. Remember to keep all piercing clean.
Good luck if you are going to undertake it, for me it was an experience that was worth taking and delighted it worked out well for me. Thanks for taking your time to read this experience and I hope it is helpful to you.
All the best, Damian
