First off let me just say that this is a "self done experience" and I or any other knowledgeable body mod practitioner do not condone this unless you are either a professional or at least know enough to be safe about it and no one with any experience (or who has read the handy risks section on bme) will tell you that safety pins are a good method to use.
A little background on myself and my collection: I have been interested in piercing ever since I can remember. I tried to pierce my ears when I was in the first grade and kept doing them for a few years but then stopped until I graduated grade 8 and did them properly. I did my own nipples when I was twelve and still have one of them though the other one has migrated a whole lot of times. Hopefully soon it will stay put, as I really want it done.
Now on to the experience.
It started one night, about 2 years ago, when I was surfing the images on tribalectic.com (I had unfortunately not yet discovered bme at that point in my life) and I went to the genital section and found a picture of a scrotal ladder. At first I didn't like it and thought 'how could somebody do that? How could they stand it?' but it fascinated me nonetheless. Then about 6 months ago it had grown on me so much that I decided to do one.
The thought was actually forced upon me in a way; I was playing with a safety pin and accidentally poked my finger with it. It was incredibly sharp for a safety pin I thought. Then the idea flashed up to my brain, why don't you try it? You may as well just see if it hurts, and if it doesn't, then you will have an amazing new adornment in a place only you will know.
Being very nervous (I mean I am going to puncture a sensitive area with a sharp object) I tried a little poke.... It didn't hurt nearly as much I thought it would so I marked a spot and pinched it as hard as I could for about ten seconds. When I was done with my delay/pinching tactic I decide to go through with it and pushed lightly on the safety pin. It went about half way through the first layer of skin on the first push and it didn't hurt at all. The second push was harder and it made it to the center with a little more pain but it wasn't anything much (I know most people say that but it really was pretty painless). Now I was a little shaky but decided to go on anyways, the third push was probably the most painful and it made it so that the point was just poking out of the skin. The last push was the hardest; it is one thing poking through the flesh but it is somehow a LOT harder to stretch it out a second later. Finally I got it through, it was a bit tender I must say but a gleaming piece of steel through my scrotum was well worth it.
As far as the aftercare was concerned I did take pretty good care of it. I did salt soaks twice a day and soaked it in the shower for twenty minutes every other day and it healed in a fairly quick time I think. To totally heal I think it took about four weeks but it might have been five because to say my memory isn't the best in the world is being incredibly nice. The next four days I did another one every night and, in the next month, had it up to 7 piercings but a lot of them migrated. Currently I have four but I will retire one soon because although it has stopped migrating it is very close to the surface and I'd rather take it out than have it ripped out or some such not so good thing.
That concludes my experience of piercing my scrotum and again would stress that it's not good to self-pierce and especially not with a safety pin. I was lucky and now that I am soon to start an apprenticeship I will be doing a much better job with the proper equipment and facilities to do so. DON'T LOSE SOMETHING AS PRECIOUS AS YOU SCROTUM BECAUSE DOING IT YOURSELF WILL SAVE YOU A FEW BUCKS. If you want this piercing then I say go for it because it is beautiful and easy but go to a pro.
I stress this just so that I can protect dumbasses like myself from themselves.
Near future projects include various ear piercing, another eyebrow, triple labret, double tongue, and my nipple yet again.
