I needed a change, things had become rather boring to an extent, after a couple of messy relationships and just being bored with life generally. I'm 21 and I needed something new in my life. I don't remember what initially sparked my recent determination to get my scrotum pierced. I had wanted to have it done for the last 3 years, but was never overly passionate about it, though if I was going to have one done, it was going to be there. I live in a town with a population of about 4500, so there were no piercing studios here other than for ears. Even in the wider area, the only reputable studio was 100km away, and as I found out they didn't do what I wanted.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Jeanette Studio JAP for Hair Location Hobart, Tasmania I decided to take a week off work and spend the week with friends in Hobart. This would expose me to the possibility of numerous piercing places. So I did a yellow pages search to see what businesses were listed under body piercing, most of them seemed to be pharmacies which even if they did what I wanted would probably be reluctant to go to. I short-listed three of them and did a search on bmezine to see if any of them had reviews. Only one had any, but it had a few and they were all exceptional. So I had my friend in Hobart ring up to see if they did scrotal piercings (save money on the long distance call!) and they did so I rang back and booked my appointment for Tuesday at 2pm.
Tuesday arrived. I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be. I rang for a taxi 20 mins before my appointment and it took 10 mins to get there, so I was kind of panicking a bit about being late. Traffic was good I managed to get there 5 mins early so I had enough time to squeeze in another cigarette. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a nice modern looking studio, with 2 chairs for hairdressing and a room for piercing. I was in there for about 10 seconds before Jeanette came and greeted me and I said I was there for a 2pm piercing. She showed me a display case of rings and asked me if I had any particular style in mind. I pointed out what I had thought I would like and decided on that one, a 12 gauge surgical steel captive bead ring. Once I had chosen that I had to fill out a form and then she explained to me a bit about what was going to happen. I was obviously nervous, but Jeanette was great at making me feel comfortable. Knowledge about what is going to h appen is very reassuring.
I went into the little room and naturally at the time she was the only one there and some customers came in making me suffer even longer. So now she was ready to go! She got all the tools which were in sterile packaging, and got out this little surgical looking tray, to sterilize the ring again even though it already had been done. Made me feel rather safe. It was time, she said that I could position myself however I was comfortable, and that I wouldn't be showing her anything she hadn't seem before. So I decided to drop everything and just lay down so that I wouldn't be tempted to watch. She put the clamps on – which from what I have read on bmezine is a good indicator of how painful it would be or totally a bad one! I didn't know what to believe so I just laid there and hoped that it wouldn't hurt too much. I didn't feel it go in at all but it did hurt slightly when it came out the other side, but before I had time to recognise that pain she had already had the ri ng in (which I was unaware of) and said that she was about to attach the ball bit. I couldn't believe how completely pain free it was. She showed it to me in the mirror, and I just said "That looks so cool". She just cleaned it up a little bit and we were done.
I paid and thanked her and left, I went to buy some more cigarettes at a newsagency 2 doors along. I had to wait there for 5 mins while the guy was on the phone. When I walked out I felt something near my knee. I lifted my shorts up a bit and my whole left thigh was covered in blood. I went back in where I cleaned my leg. The bleeding had pretty much stopped, but I still wanted to make sure that it didn't happen again. She said I would wear a sanitary pad, but I was wearing boxers so that wasn't an option. So I just put on a square bandaid type thing and went again. That turned out to be the most painful part, removing that patch (which half of my scrotum hair was now attached to). The blood had surprised me a bit because there was so little pain, but it didn't worry me that much.
That was 5 days ago now, and I have kept it clean with a diluted tea tree oil solution during the day and Betadine before I go to bed. I changed back to briefs for a couple of days just to keep it a bit safer as the join in boxers is right in the same place as the ring. I wore a patch to bed for the first few nights just for extra security, it did weep a little bit one night, but otherwise it has been fine, no crusty bits. It has all been going rather better than I thought it would.
I would definitely like another piercing but don't think I could have one anywhere else on my body, since this experience has probably lulled me into a false sense of security, although now I am considering to maybe make a ladder of 3 rings getting progressively smaller up my scrotum. And if I do I will definitely be going back to Jeanette at JAP for hair.
