About two months ago I decided that I really needed a fun piercing. I'm going to get an industrial in my right ear in March, but I wanted to do something else before that. After some research I settled on a scrotum piercing and decided that I wanted it directly below my cock, not too far down on the scrotum. I'm an active athlete doing lots of running and cycling, so anything lower than that really wouldn't fly.

I've patched myself up so many times after bike spills at 35 mph, etc, and I've watched so many of my friends get pierced, that I just felt more comfortable doing it myself. So I went online, went to the bme shop, and ordered a 12ga piercing needle, 12ga CBR, and the appropriate clamp. A week and a half later I had the materials and decided to just go ahead and do it.
I went into the bathroom, sat down on the edge of the bathtub and shed my pants. Next, I put on latex gloves, cleaned the area with betadine and decided on placement. I took the jewelry out of the package, opened the cbr with some needle-nosed pliers, sterilized it in some disinfectant, and put it in a handy spot. I got the needle and clamp ready and went to it.
I opened the package the needle came in so I didn't have to do it later. I picked the exact spot I wanted the ring, put on the clamp, and put the needle through. The needle went through very easily and with minimal discomfort (putting on aftershave hurts more). At this point, I removed the clamp, took a look at my handiwork in the mirror, sat down again, and put the cbr through essentially by just pushing the needle the rest of the way through with the cbr. Once the cbr was in I grabbed my pliers and the bead and closed the cbr. After that, I taped some gauze over it, put my pants back on, and went to eat lunch.
I won't say that the procedure was totally painless, but I really wasn't too uncomfortable or nevous at any time during the procedure. I guess being accident prone for the last 20 years helps put the significance of a simple piercing into perspective. I mean, I've been doing woodworking, pulled nails out of my hand and kept on working, so maybe I just have a high pain tolerance. Honestly, the hardest part of the whole thing was keeping the clamp in place, putting the needle through, and keeping my wang out of the way so I could see all at the same time- a third hand would have been nice. It bled a little tiny bit when I first pushed the jewelry through, but other than that there was no blood involved.
Aftercare has been uneventful. It's going on 2 weeks now since I did the piercing and things seem to be healing nicely. It was a little tender the next day, but that quickly went away and since then the only time it's hurt at all was when the cbr got caught on a button on my boxers. To date there have been no signs of infection and I'm very pleased with my handiwork. My only gripe is that placement is a little off to the right when everything is relaxed, but it's right in the center when I'm hard, so I guess there's really nothing wrong with it. The crusties reached a high point about a week after I pierced it, but I get a lot fewer now, so I guess the healing is moving along nicely so there's less plasma leaking out. I'm still cleaning it twice a day with dial soap, but I'll probably go down to once a day in another week or so if healing keeps progressing like this.
This has been a very positive experience. It's a fun piercing to look at, and I think it'll be a lot of fun to play with during foreplay once it's healed enough to tug on. Maybe it's just me, but knowing that I pierced my own scrotum, and that I've got that shiny little cbr down in my pants, is almost like a very small power trip. One of those "I know something you don't know" kind of things, maybe. But most of all, it's just a fun piercing.
My friends generally have had the reaction that they're surprised that I did it, and especially that I did it myself, but nobody has expressed any real protest. My ex-girlfriend commented that she thought it was a total turn-off, but she's my ex and I really don't care, so she can blow it out her ass. On the other hand, anothe female friend practically jumped on me because she thought it was so cool, so I guess there's really no telling what to expect from the opposite sex. In a few months I'm thinking I might add a second ring right below this one, but I'll have to see what, if any complications arise with my cycling before I do that.
