I'd like to start this off by letting people know that I do not recommend this. In hindsight I realize I had made a very poor decision and the problems I had were a product of that.

So, I had thought about getting a genital piercing for a while and wanted to know the different kinds. I knew people who had genital piercings and they seem to have enjoyed them thoroughly so that just sparked my curiosity even more. I had searched BME's Wiki page for various genital piercings until I had found one that I was interested in.

I chose the frenum because I wanted a shaft piercing and thought that was the best placement out of all the others I had seen. I had considered transscrotal and palang piercings first, but decided against it for various reasons.

I used to have a problem with letting others pierce me. I had let my sister pierce me before, and that didn't turn out too well. I had some sort of phobia against it, even for play piercing, nobody could do the piercings other than myself.

I looked into placement and gauges and tried to figure out how it would be done. I checked on the internet and made the research necessary for a DIY piercing. I had decided on a 12 gauge needle and 12 gauge jewelry to start out with. I wasn't going to do it without the proper equipment. My girlfriend at the time had a credit card and ordered the tools off of BME. She ordered 12 gauge needles, 12 gauge jewelry and clamps. We didn't have a proper sterilizer, but we didn't have that information at the time, though we should have looked further into it.

I was really excited when the instruments came in the mail. We got everything. When we decided we were ready to do out respective piercings (she had her VCH done at the same time.) I went out and bought swabs, gloves and anything else we might need. We were as ready as we knew we could be.

The first time I tried to pierce it, I had trouble. The bevel intimidated me. I knew once the bevel had made it through it wouldn't be so hard. I was used to the 24gauge needles I had been using and the 12gauge in my hand was a huge difference. I couldn't do it. I stopped myself, threw out the needle, decided to try again another time. The next day I decided to give it another shot. I lined it up, got the clamps on, lubed up the needle and pierced. Now, I wasn't completely brave....I pierced it very very slowly. I hear you get a cleaner hole that way but it hurts a helluva lot more.

I put the jewelry in (a 12gauge curved barbell) and I was done. The pain was gone, if i ran or walked funny it hurt a bit, but besides that, it was painless. I was very happy with myself. I didn't give it very much time to heal....if you know what I mean. It was hard, but my lack of self control was probably one of the reason's I eventually took it out.

After about a month, I decided to stretch, another great decision on my part. I went to a local tattoo shop and bought a curved taper. The piercer at the shop told me it was a 12 - 8 gauge taper, which was perfect for me because that's exactly the size I was intending on stretching to.

I put the taper all the way through in one shot, it didn't really hurt all that much. The next day I went to my preferred tattoo shop and bought an internally threaded 8g CBB. I had gone to put it in and had a little bit of trouble. When I finally got it through, it bled a little. Thinking this was abnormal, I asked Jeff (the piercer at the shop) if that was normal. He said it wasn't and asked to see the taper I had bought. Turned out it wasn't a 12 to 8g taper, it was a 12 to 9g taper. The bastard at the other shop had sold me an inaccurate taper.

Last time I ever go there.

The jewelry was really heavy and tugged on my newly stretched piercing. I put a bandaid over it to hold it in place until it was finally healed. I kept it clean and tried my best to save it but it was already too late. The skin over the jewelry was slowly thinning.

When the skin had noticeably gotten too thin, I took the ring out. The next day, the skin was broken. It had broken in my sleep. The skin was dead and eventually peeled off.

Since then, I've been pretty much over genital piercings, at least on me. It didn't enhance sex at all for me and just caused me a lot of trouble. Hopefully one day I'll have the right means to care for such a piercing properly and be able to get it done professionally.

Like I said in the beginning, I would not recommend this for anyone who isn't a professional or under the surveillance of one. It is a very difficult and dangerous piercing to do on yourself.
