Ok so first of all, I'm not the usual type to get piercings done. High school honor society and all that. My parents would probably kill me if they knew about this but its great that no one will really know. About 6 months back I got my first piercing done, just the cartilage in my ear. That's it. So why did I decide to get a frenum? I don't know exactly. A couple of my friends were getting stuff done a couple weeks back and I felt in the mood to do something new, partially for the fun of it but also partially since I've been somewhat depressed lately and I needed a change. I began searching the internet and came to BME. As I was looking around I became curious at the different piercings that were possible and came upon genital piercings. Coming into this whole thing, I thought a PA was the only male genital piercing but then I encountered the frenum. It seemed very intriguing to me. Not too intrusive and had some pleasurable side effects. I did all the research and looked and everything I could about it and about 2 weeks later I was going in to get it done.

So I chose Wade's Tattooing in Lancaster, PA. I have gone there with friends in the past for them to get piercings done and they all recommended it so that's where I headed. As I walked in there, Eric asked me what I wanted to get done so I told him frenum. He said that he pierces at 10 gauge and uses a straight barbell. This sounded good to me since everything I said get pierced with at least a 10 gauge because anything smaller can migrate out. He said that I'd have to wait a little since he was just taking his break and wanted to eat a slice of pizza quick. I didn't mind but I guess it made me a little more nervous sitting there waiting to get it done. Over the past 2 weeks I was never really nervous. Most of the experiences I have read said it wasn't painful so I didn't worry. So Eric went and ate a slice of pizza, had a smoke, and then set up the room and invited me in.

The place was very clean. All the needles are pre-packaged sterile and so is the jewellery. He told me to drop my pants and sit in the chair once everything was set up. He cleaned it up and then put on the marks, took a good look at them and told me what he was going to do. Basically he said that he was going to take some forceps and hold the area in place and then he was going to ask me to take a deep breath and exhale and on the exhale he would pierce it. I said alright and that's exactly what he did. I felt the sharp little pricks as he tried to line up the needle and then the sharp burn/pain as he pushed the needle through. The pain was incredibly short and that's all there was, he followed with the jewellery. He threw the needle in a sharps container and was done. It bled just a very small amount so I put on some bandaging so it didn't get all over my boxers. I stood up and put my pants back on and Eric explained the aftercare to me. It sounded simple enough. Just clean it twice a day and do some salt water soaks. He also said that I know my body best so no sex until I felt like I could handle it. Also he said no oral for about a month. The human mouth has so much bacteria in it.

I walked out of the studio in a great mood. For the rest of the night I was in a great mood. When I took the bandaging off that night it had barely any blood on it and it wasn't that sore. I usually sleep on my stomach at night so I thought this would be a big problem, but it wasn't bad at all. I slept like a baby that night and was hardly sore at all. There was some black and blue in the next couple of days, but it was minimal. I also play soccer so like 4 days later I was playing indoor and I ended up falling flat on my stomach and hitting it on the ground somewhat. This hurt...bad. It ended up bleeding a little, but didn't really injure it.

So how does it really feel as it heals? Well a week later, I had sex. Not wild crazy sex, but sex none the less. I had to be gentle because it was definitely tender. Also make sure you wear a condom. Not only will this help keep it clean, it also makes insertion much easier with the piercing. Another week later and I did it again. This time it was much better and was almost back to normal. All swelling has gone down and almost no crusties form anymore. Its still somewhat tender but no enough to really effect anything.

I haven't really told anyone other than my girlfriend that I have gotten it done. Most of my guys friends have expressed interest that its "retarded" to have a penis piercing, but the few girls that do know love it. It certainly increased sexual sensitivity for me and for my girlfriend, she is still getting used to the idea. During sex she says how she can feel it and is unsure if it really makes it better for her since it's just "awkward." So in the end, I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get it. The pain is very minimal. Healing and aftercare is a cinch and the benefits are amazing.
