So I've been telling my wife for more than a year I would like to get a piercing, maybe a nipple since mine are so difficult for her to get a hold of, and she's pretty ambivalent about the whole thing because she's got a tattoo and thinks I should just get inked instead. My feeling is ink is for life but skin grows back. Then one day I find the BME site and see a frenum piercing and I knew I had to have one.

I stopped by a shop close to my house one day and asked if they did frenums and they said sure and that you should start with a 10ga or 8ga barbell but they didn't have any and to call in a day or two.

Then I remembered reading a favorable frenum experience on BME from a guy who had it done at another shop nearby me. So one Saturday morning I decide to do it and made an appointment with Melissa Hues at BodyArt Tattoo and Piercing Studio for that afternoon. I told my wife what I was going to do and asked her if she wanted to go. I think she was a little shocked but said she wanted to come along.

When we got there I told Melissa I wanted a frenum piercing and asked if we could go with a 10ga barbell like the other shop suggested. She said that was "way to huge" and that she recommended a 14ga barbell to start and slowly stretch up to 10ga. That way the risk of piercing a vein or nerve is minimized. This piercing is for pleasure after all.

So I agreed, signed the paper work, paid $65 I think, and sat down with my wife while Melissa autoclaved everything and got the room ready.

I was getting pretty stoked about what was about to happen and tried to reassure my wife who was beginning to look worried. Melissa called us in, suggested I take everything off from the waste down and lay on the exam table.

She asked me where I wanted it placed and I asked if it was better to have it closer to the head for sensation. She said if we placed it a little farther back it would leave room for any migration, which usually occurs towards the tip of the penis, and would also leave room for a PA in the future. I said ok and with gloved hands she pinched the skin of my frenum and examined it with a small flashlight for any veins. She made some marks on my penis, took some measurements using calipers, and asked me if the spot looked good. I thought so, and I asked my wife what she thought, and with a look like "It's your dick stupid, how should I know?" she said it looked ok. Melissa put the clamps on which really weren't bad and said to relax because the piercing will heal faster if your not all tense when the needle goes thru. She told me to look at the ceiling and take three deep breaths and we go on three. I meant to watch all of this but had to lie back to view the ceiling, which had a cartoon or something up there, and before I could finish reading it she was already counting. She went on two and in-between two and three there was brief intense pain I can best describe as like being caught in your zipper and then it was done, that tricky Melissa!

I looked over at my wife to see a sort of dazed look on her face as Melissa finished up. I sat up to look and touched it with a glove Melissa handed me. She asked me what I thought and I said "it looks fucking great"! There was no blood and no bruising. While I put my pants back on my wife told Melissa her hygiene was better than most doctors she's seen. Melissa gave me the aftercare sheet and small packet of sea salt and I tipped her $15 on the way out. The following is a journal of my healing.

Day 1; Got pierced Saturday afternoon! Went shopping and picked up some multi-vitamins and a zinc supplement per the aftercare instructions Melissa gave me. Went to the movies that night and standing at the urinal it was so fucking cool to see two gleaming metal spheres under my dick! Got home and soaked in sea salt mixture and cleaned with Dial antibacterial soap, checked balls for tightness, dried piercing with facial tissue and had no problems. Started wearing boxers to bed.

Day 2: Next morning saw a small amount of blood on one bar end but no redness, swelling, or bruising at all. The alignment of barbell was perfectly centered and square, Melissa did a great job! Soaked morning and evening and cleaned before bed.

Day 3; Awakened out of sleep when piercing got caught on fly of boxers. Everything looks fine this morning and not even a crustie yet.

Soaked and cleaned as before.

Day 4; Noticed some redness around ends of piercing and soap stings a bit but still no crusties or any discharge. Continued with twice daily soakings and cleanings.

Day 5; Still see redness at piercing's ends and for the first time notice that when the piercing is wet you can actually see the barbell thru the skin at the ends, kind of cool. Called Melissa and she said if it doesn't get better in a few days to come in.

Day 7; The redness at piercing ends is persisting and I'm starting to worry the thing may be rejecting so I call Melissa and she says come in. I apologized for being so high maintenance and she says you did the right thing. She says people come in with piercings that have been rejecting or even infected for weeks but don't bother to get it looked at before it's a real problem. So she gets gloved up and checks it out and says it will probably be ok and that I should switch to Provon for the cleanings because it doesn't dry the skin so bad and kills 99.9% of bacteria. She says to do twice a day cleanings to be on the safe side and if it doesn't get better we could swap the SSS jewelry for titanium or even Tygon surgical tubing, about the most rejection less stuff there is. So I buy a bottle of Provon and start using it.

Day 10; The redness is gone on one side of the piercing and I can see the skin on that end has become rounded over. The other end still has a little redness that comes and goes but looks a lot better since switching to Provon. It helps when using the Provon to get a little lather going (just get some on your pubes and you'll have lots of suds) and use a q-tip to clean the ends where the ball joins the bar being careful not to irritate the skin on the ends.

Day 12; I get invited to go hunting. I wanted to have at least two weeks healing time before being active, but if this piercing is going to work I got to be able to hunt. Knowing this may require a lot of physical activity and having no facilities, I decide to get some antibacterial hand cleaner that requires no water to at least keep my hands clean. I also picked up some spare ball ends in case I loose one, which is not much comfort since if you do loose one the first thing your likely to notice is that your jewelry is gone, ball ends and all.

Day 15; The hunt was no problem really. It was a bit uncomfortable climbing and sitting in a tree with bulky insulated coveralls on though. I couldn't get the piercing adjusted to a comfortable position. Went home and followed usual after care routine.

Week 3; No problems, the one end of the piercing still has off and on again redness. My wife is getting impatient to try things out as am I, and just when I think it's a good time I get the thing caught on the boxers again and it is tender the next day. The after care instructions Melissa gave me strongly recommend using condoms for sex and after reading some of the experiences on BME I found some of the Inspiral condoms that have extra room for the piercing. Finally we make love and the feeling for me is incredible. It's a completely new experience how sex feels with the piercing, it's sooo good! After three weeks of abstinence it doesn't take me long to cum so my wife got a little short changed this time but she didn't mind and said watching me was pretty incredible for her. She did notice a little extra feeling from the piercing but didn't have any real opinions yet. No problems after sex, followed usual cleaning routine.

Week 4; The redness on the other end is gone and appears to be rounding over. I quit wearing boxers to bed after another minor snag awakens me. I think everyone from the BME experiences is right about the boxers being best while the piercing heals, and even in bed for the first couple of weeks, but that's enough for me.

As far as masturbation goes I tried using my usual techniques a couple of times and it sort of felt uncomfortable so I stopped. The other day in the shower though the water hitting it on top felt so good (it usually doesn't that way) that soon I had the most intense orgasm I can remember having on my own, really!

I have gone to once a day cleaning with the Provon but still do twice a day sea salt soaks.

Week 5; I helped a friend move this weekend and my blue jeans were constantly rubbing me the wrong way. I wear boxers during the day but they bunch up with jeans so I wore my old tighty whities.

This was a lot worse than hunting and I wondered if there would be redness or irritation afterwards, but there was none at all. I think my frenum is pretty much healed. I decide to go to once a day soakings and cleaning.

Week 6; No problems until a blow job in the back yard gets a little vigorous and one of the ends is irritated. Soaked it twice that day, then after the next day no problems.

Week 7; No problems and I decide to continue the once daily soaking and cleaning. For two days I saw some white matter (cellular debris?) come out of the ends of the piercing after soaking. Up to now I've never seen anything ooze or come out of my piercing. Melissa said you may see this a lot at first or even thru out the healing period.

Week 8; No problems and never saw any more white matter.

Conclusion;

This is a great piercing and an easy one to heal if you follow the aftercare instructions. At 14ga intercourse was sometimes uncomfortable for me due to the "cheese cutter" effect.

After a little more than a year I have stretched the piercing to 8ga. Sex is definitely better for me and my wife can feel extra sensation, sometimes good, sometimes not, depending on the size of the ball ends I put on the jewelry.

I wonder if I couldn't have pierced at 12ga to start, but think about all the time spent worrying that the piercing wasn't healing or was rejecting and hoping to keep what I had. Then as soon as everything was clear, obsessing over how quickly I could stretch it, only to worry about having stretched too quickly if it got irritated or something.

So listen to your piercer and be patient! Your piercing needs time to build up some integrity between stretching. When in doubt use sea salt soaks.

While my barbell was perfectly centered when pierced it has drifted and is slightly skewed now. This may be due to how things "lie" in my trousers. I would recommend marking for placement when erect since things may line up differently. Also, after stretching up to 8ga, I've noticed the width of my frenum is less now. It seems there is still the same amount of skin present, but the former width has become extra thickness. Consequently I need a shorter bar length as I've stretched up.

My best advice is simply to find a good piercer and follow their instructions. My thanks go to BME for providing this valuable resource for free thru which I found Melissa. And many thanks go to Melissa Hues. She is a skillful and experienced professional who I highly recommend.
