My genital journey began when I self pierced my frenum. I had been pondering genital piercings for a long time, since, well, my life seems to revolve around sex (doesn't everyone's?). And I really needed to do something that was gratifying to me, since the only pleasure my tongue rings (other than aesthetic) was to other people.

I fell in love with the frenum. I think it accentuates the glans and basically, to me, it just looks like something belongs there. This would be the big step for me.
I had previously ordered needles and clamps and other supplies for some reason or another. Never once did it cross my mind to go to a professional. I knew how to handle myself, and my equipment, so I was ready and raring to go.
The night came (seems like all my self piercings are done at night) for my frenum and I. I took a nice, looong hot shower and scrubbed myself thoroughly. I had previously set out my tools on a sterile tray (my moms a nurse, fringe benefits!), so all I had to do was clean and jab. I practically skipped to my room, my heart dancing. I sat down in my favorite chair and breathed for a couple of minutes to calm myself. After scrubbing myself with iodine, then alcohol, I marked exit and entry points. Then I decided to numb my frenum a bit with some topocaine. Then came the clamps. I don't understand how people can bitch about clamps being uncomfortable, maybe they're piercers got the rubber band too tight or something. Anyway, I clamped then took a minute to line up the marks PERFECTLY. The 14ga needle was already opened, and I took it in my hand. At this point I started to get the shakes a little and calmed myself with thoughts of, I don't know, monkeys. I touched the needle to my frenum, and I practically slid the damn thing halfway through. Sharp needle. I continued pushing and the entire bevel finally cleared the exit point. I opened my autoclaved barbell (1/2in SS) and slid the threading into the needle. The follow-through was uneventful and quite easy, absolutely no blood at all. I think this was the only piercing I have that didn't bleed a drop. After screwing on the other ball, I got up, took a deep breath, and.......... DANCED BABY. I don't know why, but Lil Kim was soundin' too good to resist (I always have music playing when I pierce myself, helps me focus).
After I calmed myself down a bit I crept upstairs and outside and enjoyed a sweet, sweet cigarette. I didn't even bother trying to put myself into odd positions for sleeping. I laid on my stomach and passed, no pain at all. I woke the next morning, and no pain at all, seems to be a common theme with my frenum.
After having my frenum for a couple of months, I decided 14ga was much too small. I ordered an 8ga SS barbell from BMEshop, and used a taper I bought at Hot Topic. I took me about 3 days to go from 14 to 8, and lots of pain. The end result was magnificent though, no blowout, no tears, a bit of dry skin though.
I let my favorite piercing heal and chill for about 2 months, then decided to go from 8ga to 6ga. For some reason, this stretch hurt a hell of a lot more than from 14 to 8. And then I guess the stretching bug finally took residence in my brain and I needed bigger. About 3 months later, I ordered a 2ga 5/8in barbell and a taper pack from BODYPUNKS, and stretched from 6ga to 2 ga. This stretch wasn't all that bad, and took about 2 days. However, when I inserted the new barbell, it was much too long. It was making me uncomfortable because it caught on my pants, or my boxers, depending on whether I was feeling classy enough to wear underwear. I got a new barbell and plan to stretch to 0ga, my ultimate destination, as soon as I'm fully healed.
My Tips for Stretching
1. Don't jump gauges like I did. I actually lost some tissue length because of my rapid stretching techniques. Go slowly, and you will be happier with the end result.
2. Don't skip out on the sea salt soaks. I did these religiously, and that's probably why my frenum healed(after piercing) in about 2 weeks. They help increase circulation and pull all the serum out of your new friend.
3. Vitamin E oil is AMAZING. After I was fully healed I used it to help soften the tissue and moisturize as well. It works well to break down scar tissue, and I think it makes the tissue look fuller and healthier.
4. Use LOTS of lube!( I know Shawn Porter follows that rule!)
I think if you feel qualified to pierce yourself, go for it. Your not hurting anyone but yourself, and its kind of a way to get you more in tuned with your body and the way it functions. But it is ALWAYS a better idea to go to a PRO. Enjoy your piercings and live life to the fullest.
