I've wanted to get a frenum piercing for quite a while now, but I never really had the guts to go ahead and go through with it. Then one day, I was with my friends Dave and Jason looking on BME. We came across the male genital piercings and Jason made a remark about wanting to get his frenum done. I told them that I wanted to get my done as well and we agreed to go that Friday to get our frenums pierced.

Friday came and I was a freaking ball of nervous energy. Jason, Dave, my girlfriend Rae and I drove an hour out to Gladstone, MO and started to fill out the paperwork and talk to Chris, the piercer. Chris said that he could only pierce us with either a 12 gauge or 8 gauge barbell, since he was out of 10 gauge barbells at the time. At first I wanted the 12, but after comparing the sizes I decided to go with the 8. Chris told us that he had to autoclave the jewelry and it would be about 45 minutes before he could pierce us. So we did what any normal college students would do in our situation: We went to the bar next door to unwind. I was so nervous, I couldn't stop going to the bathroom. I probably went at least 10 times in the span of 30 minutes. Finally after about 45 minutes and a round of darts (Dave kicked my ass with three bullseyes in a row) we headed back over.

I wanted to go first because I didn't want Jason to go in there and then come out and try and psyche me out of getting it done. So Chris calls me back, and I reluctantly follow him back to the piercing room. We talked about aftercare and made small talk, and then he told me to drop my pants and hop up on the familiar blue padded table. Not to be homophobic or anything, but I was a little hesitant to drop my pants in front of the only other guy besides my doctor to see my naked, but if you're going to get a genital piercing, that's just a sacrifice you have to make. I have to hand it to Chris, he was extremely professional. He could see I was nervous and he put me at ease and made the experience a lot more manageable for me to handle. After cleaning the area and marking it for placement, he put the clamps on. I've read other people's experiences that claim that this was the worse part of the piercing, but I didn't really find it to be at all painful or uncomfortable. He then told me to take a deep breath and then pierced me as I exhaled. I'd compare the actual piercing to my labret, it stings but then it's over with. The worst part was when Chris slid the jewelry in. Holy shit did that hurt! (Chris later explained that with larger gauge piercings sometimes the needle and the jewelry don't match up perfectly and there is some discomfort putting the jewelry in.). I then thanked Chris, put my pants back on and went out to wait for Jason to get his done (not necessarily in that order).

It's been about 3 days since I got the piercing done and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. The aftercare is really simple. When I wake up in the morning, I wash it in the shower with Provon soap and do a sea salt soak afterwards. I then repeat the process at night. As far as sex goes, no partner/solo play for about 2-4 weeks, but I figure that the wait will be well worth it. Also, for the time being I have switched from wearing boxers to boxer briefs that are a size smaller than what I normally wear. I did this so the piercing doesn't shift around too much during the day and while I sleep. I've had very little pain, it just pinches a little here and there depending on how I sit or lay down. I've heard that erections hurt during the healing process, but I haven't had any problems yet.

Overall, I love my frenum piercing. I think that it's a good piercing to start out with if it is your first genital piercing. It's wasn't as half as bad as I thought it would be. I think the psychological aspect of being so vulnerable in front of somebody else is what freaks people out the most rather than the minimal pain of the piercing itself. The aftercare is pretty easy to follow and the healing time is fairly quick as well. If you want it done, GO DO IT, you only live once and you won't regret it.
