My story is about the first time I decided to pierce myself instead of someone else. I've probably done well over 500 piercings on friends, relatives, neighbors, etc. and apprenticed for a short time in a local studio. I never got into piercing myself, much, however. For a long time, I have depended upon my incredibly talented and extremely knowledgable friends and fellow piercers, Channon and Mark to adorn my body - temple. They have done a wonderful job managing my lengthy piercing pedigree - believe me, it's pretty long.
I decided one morning that I needed to actually step up and give myself a piercing. I didn't want to do anything too mild, because I was doing it myself, after all, and wanted to be able to "show it off..." and I hadn't really trusted my genitals to anyone in the past, even my highly trusted piercing friends (who have now assisted me with further gen. piercings). I've been privvy to some pretty extreme mods, but never really got into the genital manipulation or piercing stuff on my own body. I had pierced hoods, labia, nipples, etc, including my wifes pseudo triangle, but never anything male. So this was an entirely new venture for me. In a short time it would produce 2 lorum, 1 frenum (highest placement), 1 PA, and 1 vertical deep shaft. Those are all different stories for a different time.
I began with the usual: washing, opening, gloving, etc. When I had everything marked and such, I effectively wimped out and decided that I would try starting at 12g. I remember thinking at the time, that this was a sensible choice, and that it would be thick enough a guage to not be uncomfortable or "pinchy", as some had described, but small enough to down-play the fact that I was sticking a very sharp needle through my dick.
I was wrong on both counts.
First of all, my experience with genital piercing has been that the pain is an entirely different sort of pain than anything else I had experienced. Ears and cartlidge are kind of achy type pain; soft tissue a kind of biting pain; and nipples kind of tickly pain. All of my genital piercings have felt like a fingernail scratch to me. Very mild, even the deep shaft piercing. The high guages of the piercings has REALLY helped the healing and comfort of the piercings, as well.
So, I marked, gently clamped and pierced. There was no resistance to the passage of the needle, and I had to look twice to believe that it hadn't really hurt, but was finished. I put in the 12g CBR and closed it.
For a week, it was only discomforted if I sweat heavily. It burned when I sweat. Strangely, however, the more it healed, the more it started to "pinch." When I first investigated this piercing, I was freaked out to read from BME that most genital piercings are not "comfortable" until they are above 8g. When I look at the 6g and 4g lorum that I have now, I understand. They feel great. The 12g sure didn't. Surprisingly, all of my genital piercings have more or less stretched themselves to where they are now. They have stayed where they are now for about 6 months, so I think that my body has guided me to a natural stasis.
Granted, I'm not a doctor, but if I had to guess, I would say that the fistula (flesh tube) got tugged on a lot worse in the 10-12g range than in higher guages. Perhaps the weight, or the skin tension, or something keeps it less painful. All I know is that BME is right, larger guages equal creater comfort.
In all, I love the frenum/lorum piercing. It hasn't done a whole lot for me sexually, perhaps other than a slight confidence booster, but it has surprisingly effected my wife's sexual experience quite drastically. I learned that if done in the right location, lorums are perfect for the natural curving of the flaccid penis, and therefore directly in line for a little "bumping" on your partner during sex while you are erect. The coolest thing about them is, once they are fully healed, they rock slightly during sex, and slap my wife in just the right spot above her anus, making a "jingling" sound. To say the least, she can "hear me coming."
