Frenum first... worry about the loop later

I was in search of balance. I had a couple scrotal piercings but I feel I needed something on my shaft. I liked the way Prince Alberts looked, but I wasn't thrilled with the idea of disrupting the flow of urine or semen. It took me years to learn how to aim while ejaculating and relearning that didn't sound appealing to me!

I had seen a few pics of frenum loops that looked interesting, so looked for more info. Unfortunately, I didn't find much. Not even by searching google groups for older rec.arts.bodyart discussions. What I did find out was that some women enjoyed frenums and others didn't. Out of the ones who found the frenums uncomfortable, adding a loop had solved that problem and added extra stimulation. The types of loops I discovered were: having a seamless ring fit over the glans, a large circular barbell, a large captive bead ring holding the barbell with drilled holes, or a thin stirrup type attachment anchored by the barbell. I found a stirrup type with beads around it at tribalectic.

Regardless of which loop I use, I would still have to get my frenum pierced and healed before. I wanted to get it right away since I had my scrotals for one month and was still busy with the aftercare. I thought it would be convenient to soak everything at the same time and save myself some trouble of doing it all again after the scrotals healed.

I called up my piercer and asked when I could get it done. He suggested using a CBR as a loop to avoid the constant movement against the barbell from the stirrup. He had to order the drilled beads, but it was going to take a few weeks to get them. I decided to put in a standard barbell instead since I didn't want to wait. It wasn't my lucky day because he didn't have the 8 gauge barbell I wanted, so I settled for 10 gauge (I knew that I could always stretch it at a later date). I made my appointment for that day and drove there.

I had been there before so I was familiar with the room, and remembered not to touch anything. I was pleased to be in what felt like a doctor's office, and it made me more comfortable. I thought about bringing a friend for support, but decided against it, thinking that it would be funnier just to show the finished product! I knew what was going to happen, so going alone wasn't much of a problem.

I undressed from the waist down and sat on the covered chair. He disinfected the area and proceeded to make the markings keeping in mind that I would eventually add a loop. Unfortunately he was out of 10 gauge needles so he had to use a 12 gauge and stretch it using a taper. I wasn't thrilled about that idea but I wanted my frenum and didn't want to wait! When he placed the clamp, I had a reminder of the sensitivity of that area, and was getting ready for something more painful than my scrotal piercings! He told me to relax and release my grip of the chair! He then guided me through a breathing exercise and then told me to take three deep breaths. I knew what was coming with my third exhale and I have to admit that it was pretty painful. This 12 gauge needle was more upsetting than the 8 gauge on my scrotum. To better describe the pain I felt, considering everybody has a different tolerance for pain, I would say it was like getting caught in my zipper! Ok, maybe a little worse than that, but it was only painful for a couple of seconds. Then he pushed the needle out with the taper and barbell. That pinched as well but it was bearable. I was probably more worried than I should have been just because I was going to experience new painful sensations, but it wasn't that bad. He screwed in 6mm balls and I got dressed. Baby steps to the door, baby steps down the stairs, baby steps to my car...

The aftercare was the same as with my scrotals, either wash with antibacterial soap or a sea salt soak, twice a day. The barbell wouldn't move for a few days after the piercing, but that was normal considering it was stretched. I tried to do at least one salt water soak every two days.

Now it's been seven weeks and things seem to be going well. I'm having a difficult time sleeping on my back and am probably impeding healing somewhat by sleeping on my stomach. I can't do otherwise and I hope that I won't delay the healing process too long. I noticed that the skin has shrunk somewhat (as expected) and I'm waiting for the crusties to stop. The discharge is clear and looks yellowish when dried up (all that I've been told is normal).

About two weeks ago, I changed my total aftercare slightly, after noticing some hypertrophic scarring on my scrotals. I've been trying to leave the piercings alone as much as possible. I would wash normally and let the soap run over my piercings without any direct application. Then I would pick off any softened discharge that didn't rinse off. I would do a saltwater soak once or twice a day and wouldn't rotate the jewellery. The amount of discharge seems to have dropped either because of the time passed, or because of the lima (leave it mostly alone) method. Either way, I'm happy about the way things are going and do not regret getting it done. Now I'm just waiting for these to heal so that I decide what's next. I think a frenum ladder is next in line...
