i was working at skyline tattoos and was really just getting exposed to piercings. i had gotten my tongue pierced a year before i started working there, but i thought all the artists were kidding when they said they had their penises pierced. one artist had a frenum, one had two hafadas, and the third had a dolphin which he had stretched to a 4 gauge curved barbell. the fact that they had risked such a sensative area for a piercing both fascinated and astounded me. being a 16 year old kid at the time, i found it almost unbelievable that someone would put metal through that part of them. i had to know why. when asked, all three had almost identical answers...sexual gratification. the ones with the dolphin and the hafadas both replied that their girlfriends had been into it and had talked them into getting them done. the one with the frenum explained that with the piercing in, his penis was more sensative, and that it also increased stimulation for his girlfriend. we ended up discussing the pros and cons of a penial piercing for the next few days. a few weeks went by and every day did a little bit more research on genital piercings, placement of the jewelry, and the affects.

after two weeks worth of discussion on the subject, i decided that i wanted to get a frenum. originally i was leaning towards a prince albert, but the piercer i had learned under said he was not comfortable doing them himself, therefore he would not teach them. in all of the books i had found, websites i had looked at, and people i had talked to, both the frenum and prince alberts(and reverse prince alberts) were mentioned as the most erotic of the male piercings. since the piercer had narrowed it down to the frenum, i researched the lenght of time necessary to heal, what types of jewelery best suited the piercing, and how painful others found it to be. i ended up going with a 14 gauge, 1/2 inch diameter captive bead ring rather than the standard barbell. in my research i had found that many women preferred the ring because it offered more of a variety of stimulation depending on which sexual positions were being practiced. since that was my main reason for getting the piercing done, my decision came naturally.

the day came that i was ready to do the actual piercing. after making sure that the needle, the 14 gauge captive bead ring, and the work area were sterilized and clean, i set out the materials i would need. present were a set of ring openers, ring closers, gauze, a cork, a 12 gauge needle (the shop had no 14 gauge needles or 12 gauge rings at the time), some A&D ointment, the captive bead ring, and some slotted forceps.

i lined up the holes of the piercing exactly one sixteenth of inch below where the head and shaft of my penis connected and checked to make sure that i had no veins caught in the path of the needle. after rubber banding the forceps to make sure that they would stay closed, i placed them on the skin, pulling it up to enable the needle to slide through just that part of my penis. i lubricated the needle with some of the A&D ointment to allow for as smooth as slide through the skin as possible. pushing the lubricated needle through, into the cork, i kept it in just long enough to slide the ring through. the pain was no where near as bad as i had imagined it would be. after reading some other experiences, i was expecting to see stars, or black out, but it was no more than a pinch, and then a dull ache throughout the healing process.

i then proceeded to close the ring with the bead held tight in between the ends(like any captive ring should be). after cleaing the area with some sterile gauze, and checking to make sure the ball was held tightly, i went about the rest of my day normally.

The healing in total took a little over two months. a few days after i did the piercing, i noticed a little bit of discharge from the fresh holes. this was closely followed by a slight build up in a crusty material on the sides of the ring. to combat the build up, i washed the piercing 3 times a day with dial soap, rotating the ring back and forth twenty to twenty five times each cleansing. doing so helped ensure that the skin did not heal around the sides of the ring, cutting off movement and hampering the ability to heal. since i could not carry around a bar of dial soap with me, i went and got a bottle of tea tree oil to aid in the healing. after speaking with another piercer slightly north of me, i found that the tea tree oil helped to keep the piercing surface free of bacteria, as well as to lubricate the ring for rotation. in some cases, the combination of an anti-bacterial soap (such as dial) and the use of tea tree oil can cut the healing time of piercings in half.

a month after the piercing had completely healed, i decided that i no longer wanted a captive bead ring in my frenum, and decided to stretch. i went from the 14 gauge captive bead ring to a 10 gauge circular barbell. the process was almost like repiercing my penis. the stretching was, in my opinion, more painful then first getting it pierced. i found the appropriate taper, and lubricated it with some A&D ointment, just as i had the needle previously. sliding the taper through the holes in my penis, i let is sit half way through to allow the skin to stretch a little more gradually then just forcing it through. inserting one end of the ring into the grooved back end of the taper, i then slid it through, and screwed on the ball of the circular barbell.
