Frenum For Thought

Where to begin... Well, I suppose I'll just start with the usual. I'm a 23 year old student who you probably wouldn't guess was into anything as "odd" as body art. I look like just about every other guy my age... etc., etc. My fascination with piercing began when I was about 12, but I never actually had anything pierced until I was 17 (and even then it was just the plain old left ear lobe). By the end of high school I had added a hole to my right lobe and had ventured into the realm of 'actual' body piercing with my left nipple. So began what was to become and continues to be an important part of my life. Currently, I have my left lobe and cartiledge (the right lobe grew over), tongue, both nipples, a guiche, and a frenum.

Okay, now that that's out o' the way, I guess I better get to the reason you may actually be reading this... (drum roll please) "the frenular experience."

It all started a little over a year ago with a conversation with my girlfriend. She wanted to get her first below-the-waistline piercing and was discussing the idea with me. Although I had gotten my guiche the year before, I was also interested in the idea of getting a piercing that would be a little more beneficial to our sex lives. Even though she assured me that the guiche was visually stimulating for her there, I was still curious about the notion of heightening the physical aspects of our relationship. After spending some time on BME, we were pretty much set on what we wanted to do. She was determined to get a horizontal hood piercing and I thought a frenum would be a nice addition for myself (and her too, of course).

So, after quite a lot of consideration and discussion, it was time to call the studio. Having lived in St. Catharines for the past few years, Artistic Impressions has become our favourite place to get poked. Dan (the owner) and his staff are really great. They are always friendly and very professional. Normally, you don't have to make an appointment to get pierced, they work on a first come, first serve basis. Genital piercings are handled a slightly differently though, and you have to make an appointment about a week in advance. They do this for a couple of reasons. The first is that it gives people a chance to make sure that this is something they really want to do, and the second is that they need to make sure the proper people are able to do the job. They generally like to have one of the guy piercers do the male piercings and likewise for the ladies. Who better to be sensitive to one's situation than someone of the same sex?

After we had set up our appointments, the next week seemed to drag on like no other. Finally, the day arrived and we were on our way. The whole bus ride was pretty much spent in excited, but quiet, anticipation. When we arrived, we let them desk person know we were there and took a seat in the waiting area. My girlfriend went first and watching how smoothly her experience went calmed my nerves... maybe a little too much.

Finally, after my girlfriend was finished and my new jewelry (a 14 gauge barbell) autoclaved, it was my turn and I went to the piercing room with Jeremy and my girlfriend in tow. Jeremy told me to drop the drawers and hop up onto the doctor-style table. Through the piercing process, my girlfriend had this evil little grin going on the whole time, and I don't know if it had more to do with her new ring or her amusment with my rapidly retreating soldier. Jeremy was very professional and cracked a few one liners to help ease any tension. Jeremy donned what was to be the first of several pairs of latex gloves before we began. We discussed placement and then he carefully cleaned the area and marked the entry and exit spots while I started to do some relaxing, steady breathing. (Again, I'll mention that I may have been a bit too calm). Even though Jeremy asked if I was ready and let me know he was about to put the needle through, it hurt... and a fair bit more than I had been anticipating. Later my oh-so-sympathetic girlfriend told me that she had never seen my member look so small, "like it was trying to get away, even." As soon as the needle was through however, any pain immediately subsided. There was another small pinch, which Jeremy warned me about, as the barbell slid through and then... it was done. The barbell fit snuggly into the reccess behind my (lower) head and looked terrific. I jumped back into my boxers and pants and thanked Jeremy. He went over all the aftercare instructions with me. I thanked him again for his services (verbally and with a tip), paid and we (my girl and I) were on our way. (My girlfriend said that the bus ride home was by far the best public transportation experience of her life... but that's her story.)

As for the healing process, everything went just fine. I cleaned the piercing about twice a day with a mild anti-bacterial soap for the first couple weeks, making sure to rinse well with water (anti-bacterial soap left in the urethra can cause problems). There was no pain what-so-ever with the exception of an occasional snag on the band of my unders if I wasn't paying attention while I got dressed. After about three weeks it seemed completely healed... and no, I was not able to hold out that long before testing it out.

As mentioned at the beginning of this whole adventure, I have had my frenum for just over a year now, and the sex seems to only get better. My girlfriend especially enjoys the sensation of it rubbing up against her during foreplay and inside of her when we play "doggie style." It has also heightened my own pleasure by increasing the sensitivity of that little spot on the underside of the penis, just behind where the head and shaft meet. In addition to the physical enjoyment it brings, there is also the psychological factor. The mere thought of my girlfriend's mods is enough to get me going. These new piercings are a definite plus in the continuing growth of our sexual experience.

So, I guess in conclusion, there's not a lot more to say other than it looks great, it feels great, so don't wait. If you've been comtemplating getting a frenum, I would highly recommend one (or more). It is a piercing that will be a joy to not only yourself, but also your partner.

After-thought...

I think Michael Stipe was really on to something with that song... Shiny Happy People. I don't know, maybe I'm interpreting in wrong =)
