I have been into body mods for close to two years, I have been pierced, tattooed, cut and branded and had implants done, and for the past 6 months I have been working as a full time piercer, and recently I have been learning about cutting and branding and I'm hoping to move into that area of body mods one day soon.

Recently I decided to move towards a genital piercing, being a body piercer I made the decision to perform the procedure myself, after researching different people's experiences with genital piercing and the different places it could be done safely with my small amount of experience in body piercing, I decided to test the waters by doing a surface piercing on the top of my shaft close to the base.

After making the decision I just needed to decide when and where, the obvious choice was my house being that where I work they are not keen on me piercing myself, but being that I still live with my parents I had to make sure they weren't home (they still lecture me on how what I do to my body is mutilation, even though they are still very loving parents).

I waited till my next pay came through and ordered in some needles from BMEshop along with clamps, alcohol wipes and the Circus Mundus Absurdus DVD (just thought I'd add that).

The next decision I had to make was what jewellery to use, when it comes to surface piercings I have been pierced with PTFE, staples, and curved barbells, my personal preference is PTFE, but I have recently heard about tygon (I think that's the stuff) and want to research it some more and see whether that would better.

So I snuck some of the spare 14g PTFE I had at home to work and autoclaved it, next I had to wait for my needles to come in.

The day the needles came in I was rather excited and a little nervous to not knowing how this whole thing was going to play out. That night while watching the DVD that had come with this order I decided to do it, I set up all the tools I was going to need, alcohol wipes, jewellery, clamps, needle, body marker and tissues to catch blood.

I marked myself up, that took some time because my hands were shaking so much, eventually I was happy with the placement, at that point my penis decided it didn't like all this and started retreating into my body, I had to relax and slowly I was able to clamp it up, the next step was the hardest for me due the shaking hands and the fact that I found the best way to pierce my penis was standing up, I stood up with my bed behind me slowed the shaking in my hands a bit and lined up and pushed the needle through, the pain was no where near what I thought it would be but enough to make me want to sit down straight away, the next step of pushing the jewellery in was easy due to the fact that I could stay sitting down for it. Bleeding was minimal and there was no pain afterwards at all (unless I knocked it). The feeling I had afterwards was amazing, I had pushed through a rather large mental barrier and felt like I had achieved so much, this was one of the few times I felt like I could be more, like I could battle mental blocks my head put infront of me and win.

The next night I decided to place two more working up the shaft of my penis, I love the way it looks and love the feeling of them, without them in I wouldn't feel whole.

The healing time was around about 2-3 weeks and I have now found that I prefer straight barbells in rather than the PTFE, the straight barbells seem to sit better.

My recommendation for anyone considering a genital piercing like mine is research as much as you can, read all the experiences that you can get your hands on before getting it done, also speak to different piercers about what you want done and don't get something because someone else wants you to have it, make sure you want it aswell. And lastly I am not saying through this that it is necessarily a good idea to pierce yourself, I was lucky enough to have access to sterilized needles and sterilized jewellery. Using clean equipment is one of the most important things ever. Be ready to look after your piercing to, I get sick of seeing people that clearly have not looked after their piercings and have infections and just cause problems for themselves and others around them, and then place a bad name on body mods.
