I've only had three "mods" in my life, and they have all been to my genitalia. The first was circumcision, which was not by my choice. The second was a vasectomy, and the third was an apadravya. It started many years ago (I had actually tried when I was a teenager). I had never heard of genital piercing before, and tried to hang some jewelry on the edge of my urethra. I had two CBR's dangling from the head of my penis and was thrilled. However, the thrill was lost when one fell into the urinal. I learned quickly about migration.

Attempt two had to be further into the urethra, and looked like it would be practical from the bottom. Success was to be had, and my CBR was able to be used again. Now I had a solidly planted piece of jewelry. Healing was complicated by the fact that my wife is anti-mod (she doesn't even have pierced ears). Therefore, this piece had to come out nightly. Yearning for more, I started to explore the upper side of the urethra. After studying the anatomy, I proceeded to create a hole from the urethra to the top of the penis, just behind the glans. This was done with a straight pin (probably 28 ga or smaller). The tissues were firm enough to bend the needles, and it took many attempts to get this through. (I have to mention the endorphin rush here – quite interesting.) After a while, I was able to put some fishing line through the hole. Very small fishing line.

It was about this time that we were taking a family trip on an airplane. Not wanting to get caught in the metal detector, I decided to remove the "jewelry" that I was using. While using the bathroom on the airplane, I discovered another problem – the warm feeling on my leg was from the new urine stream coming from the bottom of my penis. How do you walk up an airplane aisle and sit back down next to your wife after you have just urinated on your own leg? All I can say is that I'm glad I took my jacket to the bathroom.

Returning from the trip, the hole had not closed up and my "jewelry" still fit. This was getting serious, and it was time to find some appropriate jewelry. It was during the searches for jewelry that I found BME. And they even had pictures of my "mod". Now I didn't feel so weird – other people had similar inclinations. I also found a place to get supplies to make some better jewelry. I'll never forget the excitement the day the UPS man showed up and handed me the package.

>From this point, with some guidance from BME, I was starting to learn what these piercings were called, and some better ways to take care of them. Also, stretching sounded interesting. I had ordered supplies for 14 and 12 gauge jewelry, and started learning about too long and too short jewelry.

Stretching took on a new dimension, since fishing line isn't very available in sizes over 14 gauge. Metal was working well, but the jump between gauge sizes is a little much, especially if your "morning stretch" is your apadravya. The "nail polish" method is definitely bad for this. It seems to work OK at first, but when the edges of the polish chip off, where do they go? I had to pick up an Otoscope to dig the pieces out (you know – the thing that doctors look in your ears with). But I digress – I had fashioned a lubricator from a small hand soap bottle and a "ball inflator" in order to lubricate the hole before inserting the jewelry. And larger jewelry could be fashioned with a combination of titanium and shrink wrap tubing. This combination has progressed the hole to 4 gauge. I would like to end the stretch at 2 gauge.

The biggest problem at this point is scar tissue. At about 8 gauge., the stretching got very difficult, and I had not been all that careful about de-burring the edges on a piece of jewelry. This led to a cut on the inside of the piercing that took a long time to heal.

Fabricating my own metal gives the distinct advantage of being able to create odd sizes so that I don't have to go through a "full gauge" stretch every time. Oops – digressed again. I am pausing at 5 gauge right now to attempt to treat the scar tissue (downsize, vitamin e rubs – yes, I found QOD). When it feels right, I will continue.

I can't believe the number of things that I did wrong, and still came out OK. Now that I look back, I must have been nuts! Although I enjoy the pain, there are so many other things that could have gone wrong. I think that I would not have done this had I known what I do now. Thank you, BME, for all of your assistance.
