About a year ago my girlfriend and I went to a piercing-shop to have her navel re-pierced after her pregnancy.

At that time I had never visited the BME site. To my great surprise she said yes and that was the moment that I knew I was going to take a genital piercing, even though she came back from her decision to take a hood piercing.
In the shop the piercer showed me the options for genital piercings on a rubber model. I decided to go for a frenum since this one didn't felt to extreme and painful for a start. He used all the hygienic precautions that I have read about since, different sets of gloves, clamp and barbell were packed and the pierced area was sterilized.
Frenum was pierced with 12g and the actual piercing just felt like a split second sting.
After this piercing my interest in piercings had started. The piercer told me about BME as a good source of information. After reading lots of stories and looking at pictures, I knew an Apadravya would be painful but more important beautiful and could be stimulating when having sex. The girlfriend wasn't to sure about it but she came along when I went to have my APA pierced.
The day before I went by to pickup a marking gauge to determine the length of the barbell when erected. He advised me a bit longer than measured because cleaning would be easier. He asked me to drop my pants and sit back on a bench.
Now the first thing he did for me was stretching my frenum to a 10g, this was more painful than I expected because I was more occupied with my APA than my frenum.
After a short break and soda I asked him to continue with the piecing of the 10g APA. After the marking and my OK he clamped the head and asked me to start deep breathing, holy shit that hurts, but just for a short while, now my adrenaline was taking a run through my veins. My dick looked at me as if he was saying thank you bastard. But I was happy and he would be too sooner or later.
After the piercing he wrapped it with bandage and put the finger of a plastic glove over my dick, he advised me to clean it with my own urine at the end of a shower since this was sterile and body-own fluid. This method for me resulted in a quick and trouble free healing process. After a couple of months I had the barbell shortened to a more, sexual, comfortable length. My girlfriend's first experience with the piercing was painful, mainly because of the length of the barbell. She still likes it better without because of some scare tissue due to stitching after giving birth of our child.
After 6 months I decided it was time for a stretch and had the 8g ordered. I wanted the barbell to have a bit more body. The stretching was less painful than I what was expecting, only after there was a slight feeling of uncomfortable pressure, but that was gone the next day. After a week or so I could take out the piece of excess skin that was trapped in the new gauge.
Getting used to the 8g wanted me to upgrade, at least, one more time.
This time I decided to do the 6g stretch myself. Ordered the 6g barbell and a matching un-threaded taper. Putting some zinc-ointment on the taper and pushing it slowly from bottom to the top was easier and less painful than I expected. Pushing the taper out with the barbell needed some concentration but went fine. I am using the taper very often because I take out the barbell when having intercourse with my girlfriend. Putting the barbell back is easier when the stretching has been done some time ago. After a couple of months it is possible, with some twisting, turning and pushing, to put the barbell back without using the taper and the zinc-ointment.
I can truly say that I am very happy with my Apadravya and hope my girlfriend will share this feeling with me in the near future.
I don't know if many girls find it too sensitive to have sex with a guy with an Apadravya piercing, but what you can do to find out, before your friend is going to have his dick pierced.
Ask your piercer (or do it yourself) to pierce a jelly dildo with the same gauge and length as he is having and check it out.
