Ok, I'll start at the beginning; I was online about three weeks ago and came across a picture of an apadravya. It was not the first time I had seen this piercing, but for some reason I felt I had to have one. I started doing some research, trying to find out all I could about this piercing. I mainly wanted to know if I could do the piercing myself since I doubt I would ever let anyone else pierce me (and I am only 17).

After finding some info. I decided that I could do it myself, and proceeded to find my equipment. I finally decided on and ordered a 16g 1 ¼" black titanium barbell, although I now wish I would have gone for the 14g at least. I picked the black titanium because I thought it looked nice and I am allergic to nickel, a key ingredient in stainless steel. I then looked for some were to order a needle, but on all the online order places was a message saying: MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO ORDER: I finally arranged for a friend of mine who lives in a large city, I live in a small town, to attempt to purchase one at a piercing shop and deliver it to me. This worked and I received my needle shortly after getting my jewelry in the mail. I could have gotten forceps but wasn't sure if it would make it any easier, and being sort on cash, I opted not to use them. I only had to wait till I had at least two strait days off of work, which is a rare occurrence. But I was in luck, we had a manager out and I had covered a lot of hours that week, so I got Friday night, to Sunday night off.

That Friday night I went and played Guitar Hero at my friend's house, I love that game! I then went home around 3 a.m. and took a very long hot shower, and washed myself very well. I figured that this would soften my tissue and help me to relax a bit. I sat down in the shower and directed the water stream away to where it wouldn't interfere with my piercing. I knew about where I wanted it from previous measurements, and marked myself accordingly. Then I got to work, and yes I was nervous.

The first entry of the needle is somewhat painful, but nothing unexpected. The tissue was much tougher than I expected it to be, so the going was slow. There is pain, but it isn't that bad, and when I was about a 1/8" in, it felt like I was about 1/2" in. When I got to the area right above the urethra, the pain suddenly jumped to an unimaginable severity, and I would push it in a bit, and then stop for awhile. Entering the urethra is about double the pain I experienced above, but it rapidly recedes. When the needle is in the urethra it is a little weird because you can tell that needle is free to move around.

Here I stopped to collect myself because logic told me that there would be the same pain going out that there was going in. I was right, but as I said the pain doesn't last long at all, like a flash. Going through the bottom portion of my head was much easier that the top, maybe because I was getting used to it. Exiting the flesh was tough, and then it was done, and I felt a great relief. I had actually done it! So I went to put the jewelry in, you know, the easy part right? Wrong. At least for me. It went well until I got into the urethra, then something happened, the jewelry slipped out of the needle, and I had jewelry through the top and needle through the bottom. I tried the best I could but could not get it to line back up. I then pulled the needle out, and not being able to get the barbell through the whole, stuck the rest of it through my urethral opening and put on the other ball.

I was very disappointed in myself for making such a stupid mistake. Through all of this there was only four drops of blood tops, and it came from when I removed the needle. I decided I was too tired to retry the bottom piercing that night as it was getting late, 5:30 a.m. After a thorough rinsing off I put a condom on and went to bed. I was very surprised at the soreness, it was practically non-existent! I slept well except when I woke up after a few hours to a sharp pain, I hard a very large hard on, and I was bleeding slightly, after my wood went down, I fell back asleep. The next morning I took another shower to rinse everything off. I kept a condom on it that day, but it didn't bleed at all.

That night I went through the same shower procedure again, then sat down and thought about how to get a whole in the bottom of my head that would line up with the top. I finally decided on a risky move; push the needle back through the top whole using the jewelry as a guide. This went fine, and I was back in my earlier situation of having a half pierced apadravya. The pain was the same as before until I hit what I guessed to be the nerve bundle I had heard about when researching the piercing, and my god did that hurt! I eventually got it all the way through and it was time to retry the jewelry. I had no mistakes this time. I was thrilled! I actually had an apadravya! I did it myself, with no anesthetic, and even though I encountered a problem, everything was fine. It was where I wanted it, and it looked like I wanted it to look. It is hard to explain, but it just seems to fit well with me, like an addition of me. I am very pleased with the results, and am very glad I did it. I must say though that I do not recommend just anybody going out and doing this. While this was my first piercing, it was not the first piercing I had ever performed. I have done two tongues, a lip, ear, and an upper septum, between the eyes, not to mention some surface piercing. I also have a pretty good tolerance for pain. I consider myself somewhat learned in this kind of thing, but I do not in any way consider myself a professional. But I do recommend getting the piercing if you are thinking about it. If anyone would like to ask me any other specific questions, please E-mail me. I will be happy to respond. Happy piercing!
