Wow. Now that's cool!

Four years ago I had my nipple pierced at Sticky Fingers (Fells Point, Baltimore) while living in Baltimore. A month before that I had my belly button pierced; also by Lisa at Sticky Fingers. Since then, I had been thinking seriously about a genital piercing. (and to think that at one point I claimed that I would never pierce anything "pink"!)
After finishing a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences at some school in Baltimore, I found myself in Hawaii; sunny skies, blue water, and after a while, an itch that needed to be scratched. After doing as much research as I could online (thanks BME), I headed to nearby tattoo and piercing shops -- I had more questions that needed to be answered. I was directed to a shop in China Town; Dan at Eternal Body Art to be specific. He did these kinds of piercings, and supposedly he did them well.
I walked into his shop. I was greeted by the familiar smells of a clean shop and an encouraging smile from everyone there. Can they help me, I was asked.
Yes. I am interested in a piercing below the belt.
"Cool! Here is a book to look through."
I already know that I am interested in an Apadravya. Doyoudothose? Howmanyhaveyoudone? Howlonghaveyoubeendoingthis? Howbadwillithurt? The questions poured out rapidly. Dan answered every one of them calmly and with the confidence and know-how of a professional. I always do my research... this is the guy that I'll trust to drive a needle through my winkie. He sent me home with some literature and a good feeling about what I was going to have done. I wandered into his shop a week later, almost impatient – I was ready to do this.
The needle went in smoothly a few minutes after cleaning the piercing site and discussing the procedure. The pain was more intense than my other piercings -- it was a strong burning sensation that lasted a little longer than I expected. But, by the time I thought I had taken enough, he secured the ball onto the jewelry, and the procedure was done. Concentrating on my breathing and not the needle helped (in for 3 out for 6, in for 6 out for 9, in for 9 out for ahhhhhhhhh!). Honestly, the hardest part was the anticipation – he had rested the tip of the needle against the entry site while he had me breath. Feeling the sharp surgical steel there, then, for that long... was a bit scary. But, that I finally had the jewelry I wanted after a few years was incredible. Looking down at the shiny silver ball... awesome.
That night was tough sleeping -– I'd rather not sleep on my back, but circumstances what they were, I didn't really have a choice. And then there was the first erection. Uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable. I undid the gauze and sat on my toilet until that subsided and took my second piss of the night. I sat not knowing what my situation would be; it turns out that I don't leak at all from the bottom hole. I had been drinking tons of water and I believe that helped keep things clean. That first morning, my morning piss was scary. Scary with a capital OhShit. I knew it would bleed. But like that? I obviously threw whatever clot had formed and the blood just started coming out. I'm gathering the gals are used to seeing this kinda thing; but not me, not from there. I put some Bactine onto a Q-tip, cleaned myself off, re-rubberbanded the gauze to myself and set off for work.
The first day with my new gear was great. Just knowing that it was there was pretty cool. I kept the gauze on, but that got uncomfortable so I removed it and replaced it with a nitrile (non-latex medical) glove. This was under the pair of running shorts (under my jeans) I wore just in case I leaked (which I never did). The glove did the trick and I used that for the next 3 to 4 days just in case. I never again bled like that first morning, but sleeping would be tough for at least a week, maybe even two.
On day five, I took it for a test spin. Fantastic! But, now its sore and I feared I had set back my healing process. Not to worry, the soreness wore off a day later and I continued with my salt solution cleanings for a few weeks. I waited a few days before trying it out again and this time the soreness was less intense, while the "Fantastic!" was just as good, if not better!
Over a month has gone by and I love my piercing! I can sleep through the night unless a crusty grabs me wrong. This sends a quick message to wake up and fix the problem. Other than that, the salt soaks and Q-tip cleanings worked wonders as well has staying hydrated, eating well, and throwing in a multi-vitamin for good measure. Remember that you have a puncture wound. It's going to hurt and be sore. But, if it's what you've always wanted, it is totally worth it. Thanks, Dan. I'll be back for a stretch. Soon.
