What to say about today; Overall it started out as a pretty normal day, get up late, have a quick shower and some breakfast, run up to university to a lecture on this or that subject, advanced materials and spacecraft engineering design today, and come home and chill out in the afternoon. Except it didn't finish there, I went out and got my first piercing, an Apadravya.

For more than a year now I've really wanted to get a body mod, not for any particular reason, except that I wanted to do something for myself, and have something to be able to look back on and remind me of all the great times I've had at university. To begin with I really wanted a tattoo, and I still do, but after searching and drawing countless designs, I hadn't been able to pin down one design that I really wanted. After many months I decided that a piercing would be a great intermediate step on the way to the tattoo. The only problem with a piercing was the visibility, and sad as this is, it really affects your chances of getting that crucial first job. I've always wanted an industrial, but knew this would be way too visible, so I looked for something below the neck. I've never liked the look of nipple piercings, and surface piercings never last, so it was down to a genital piercing. After looking at countless pictures on BME and other sites, I really liked the look of the Apadravya, but I thought I could never handle the pain as it would be my first piercing. Slowly I began to get more and more obsessed with it, and after reading so many helpful experiences, both on BME and the forums at http://www.coldsteel.co.uk/, I thought that I could handle the pain and have it done.

Yesterday I got myself fully psyched up and ready, and rang up to confirm when I was coming in that day, but I got the answer-phone saying that the place was closed for the day. I felt a great wave of relief instantly, and wondered whether I would have gone through with it if they had been open.

This morning I rang again, and I was in luck, they were open till 5pm, half an hour after my lectures finished. It was going to be tight, but university is only 10 minutes from the shop. All through lectures I couldn't concentrate, I was getting so nervous and jumpy that I was half considering not going. I spent the entirety of my last lecture trying to calm down and stop being so nervous. When the lecture finished I was fully worked up, and on the walk down to the shop I was almost shaking.

When I arrived Chris instantly calmed me down with his friendly and professional manner. He led me through to the back room, and asked in such a matter of fact way for me to drop my trousers and hop onto the bed, that I was relatively quite calm. We had bit of a chat and a laugh about the pain, and he said it was going to be different to anything I've ever experienced before. At that point I started to get a bit (read 'a lot') more nervous and asked about the technique he used, he said he didn't bother with the 1-2-3-Go because it took quite a while to do the piercing, he said that I should just brace and grin & bear it, and that it would only last a few seconds.

He was ready to go, and told me to lie back and brace. Then it happened, I can't really describe it, it wasn't all that bad, just like squeezing the Glans really hard I think and then it was over. He inserted the PTFE bar quickly, and screwed the ball on. He said that I'd done really well, no screaming or crying out, which was a bonus to hear. There wasn't much blood to start with, but after I stood up a gush came out. I nearly freaked out, but he said that it was normal as the blood fills the urethra when your lying back, and when you stand up it comes out. He put on a wad of tissue, and used a surgical glove to hold it in place to stop the blood. Next came the really painful part, giving over the cash to him. I tipped him generously as he had to do the unenviable task of touching my penis, and thanked him loads for doing it for me. He said it was cool, and that to give him a call if I needed anything, and to come back in a month to have the bar shortened to the correct length. I walked out feeling pumped and on an adrenaline high.

I'm back at home now, the walk back was fine and I could only feel a slight throbbing in my pants. I instantly took off bandage too look at it, it looked really awesome, even though it was still bleeding a bit. I wasn't worried about this, I've read about how it would bleed for quite a while, and proceeded to wrap it up again.

Overall I'm so pleased that I sucked up the courage to do it, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get a genital piercing done, I think it looks way better than anything else, and it's much easier than you think!
