When I was growing up I wanted a tongue or eyebrow ring but I work at a job that doesn't allow facial piercing, so that idea was ex'd. For the past few months I have looked into genital piercing, mostly Jacob's ladders or Prince Albert's. I talked to guys who had them and girls who had been with guys who had them (and some who hadn't) to get an idea of what the experience was like. I had pretty much decided to start off with a ladder and maybe move to a PA down the line. Body Rites here in Columbia has a good reputation so that is where I decided to go. I went in and was talking to the people behind the counter (they were married) and getting some feedback. I was looking through the book and saw the apadravya. He said he had one and she said she loved it. They told me about the pain but I went for that one anyway. Just one of those things you know you want as soon as you see it.

It hurt like hell. Only hurts for a few seconds, but it is a quick intense, very intense, pain. I think it took longer for me to get over the pain than the pain actually lasted. I just didn't expect for it to feel the way it did. The endorphins kick in pretty quickly and you will begin to feel fine. You will walk a little staggered for a few days. I work in a restraint and in a gym as a trainer, so I do a lot of moving around and walking. People noticed. The bleeding, which for me was a lot, only lasted for about a day and a half with some very rare slight spotting once or twice the following two days. I must say that at this point, I love it. I think it looks totally badass and I get a lot of attention from it. Girls love to see it. Some want to try it out.
When it comes to care, I recommend you buy some powder free latex gloves and medium or large gauze squares. The gloves go over it much easier than a condom (duh) and that first day or two you really want to avoid anything putting any kind of pressure on that area. When you get your piercing, they will put a rubber band around the base of the glove to keep it on. I found that if I wear boxer briefs or underwear (no boxers) and just fold the bottom part of the glove up, I can avoid trying to stretch that rubber band around and it just adds one more level of comforted ease to the care process. Remember, that area is a sensitive one before the piercing; afterwards it is even more so. I was lifting weights 4 days or so after the piercing and doing some front shoulder raises and the end of the weight hit it. That woke me right up and caused a little bit of bleeding. Erections will also hurt quite a bit. Since erections during the sleep are hard to control, if you awake with one in the middle of the night in pain, just keep a glass of cold water near by. Stick it in the glass and that will take it down and help numb that pain so you can get back to sleep. Worked great for me.
This is the only piercing I have besides my ear which I haven't worn a ring in for 2-3 years now and had only when I was in like 8th grade. So I am no expert in the field. But on a scale one to ten on female popularity and just looking badass, I give it a ten. Get pass the first couple days, which is more tedious and being careful than pain really, and you are good to go. A lot of people after seeing it or hearing that I got it are kind of in shock and are like "Wow, that's sick" or something. But once they think about it for a second and hear feedback from a girl who has been with a guy who has one, they changed their mind. Some don't, but that's ok. Also, a piercing like this puts you in an elite group almost. If you meet other people who have genital piercings of some kind, they are open with you and talk to you more than if you were someone who didn't have one, hard to explain.
Apadravyas are not done as often as many other male genital piercings. Sarah sad she has done a lot more PA's and ladders than apadravya (she said maybe 5 in the last 6 months). And, a great bragging right you get with one of these: it is the only male piercing featured in the Kama Sutra (ancient book of sexual positions). That also piques a girl's interest in wanting to try it out.
