After getting my tongue pierced about a year ago, my left nipple 4 days ago (Tuesday 29th June 2004) and left eyebrow 2 days ago (Thursday 1st July 2004) I wanted to get something a little more unique. I had been doing reading on male genital piercing and liked the idea of getting something like that done. After much research into the different types of piercings available, and reading the experiences of others I decided I wanted to get 2 genital piercings done – an apadravya and a frenum.

I got in contact with my local piercer via email and made enquiries regarding if he had done such piercings, how often he had done them, the cost for such piercings and other general information. He was very quick in his response (usually within an hour on email) and was clear in his explanations. The next day (Friday 2nd July 2004) I went to see him at his studio and get some more of my questions answered (primarily, can I get both a apadravya and a frenum done because I still have my foreskin, and can both be done in the same session)

He told me that there should be no problems with getting both piercings done, with or without the foreskin. I asked him when could I get them done, and he said I could now if I wanted. Well, my mind was made up, I had the cash (AUD$180 total) – it was time. I knew if I didn't get it done now I would probably chicken out.

He led me to the piercing room, which I had been in previously when getting my tongue, nipple and eyebrow done, and started to get his "tools" ready. He opened 2 sterile packed piercing kits and then the 2 sterile single-use needles. Next he poured a small amount of blue food colour in each of the piercing dishes (this is what he uses to mark the holes) and got 2 toothpicks. I was then instructed to remove my shorts and pants and lie down on the piercing bed with my buttocks on the absorbent pads (like the ones used in birth suites). Another absorbent pad was then placed over my genitals. Now it was time!

Next Snake checked the head of my penis for sizing of the bar. He had a number of sterile packed SSS bars in the room with him so he could fit the correct size. Snake then marked the entry and exit holes for the apadravya, checked them twice then reached over and got the piercing needle. I was expecting a lot of pain. He told me to breath in deeply at which time he pushed the needle through the head of my penis. A short sharp pain. I was waiting for more pain, like I had read from others experiences and was expecting. Next thing I hear Snake say "Done. Ready for the next one?" It WAS NOT very painful. It felt about the same as when I got my tongue done. By this time I had started to bleed a little bit. It was nothing more then a slight trickle of blood. I think the fitted jewellery was a 14g barbell. (I'm new to all these sizing terms)

Next was the frenum. Once again Snake marked then holes, checked their placement and got me to take a deep breath. Done – this time it was little more then a sting, about the same as an ear piercing. The frenum didn't bleed much at all. It had a ring fitted to it, which I think was an 8mm, 14g ring (once again, I'm not 100% sure of the terms used)

A point of interest to note is that Snake DOES NOT USE FORCEPS. He is completely a freehand piercer, and I contribute the use of this technique to be the factor for the minimal pain that I experienced during both piercings.

Snake then "dressed" the piercings and I lay down for about 5 minutes to give the slow trickle of blood coming from the piercings a chance to clot. All done! I was instructed about the aftercare procedure :- wash 2 times a day with gamophen soap, avoid baths and try to keep it dry; if you can, go to the beach for a swim; avoid playing with it; don't have sex until you can comfortable touch it – about 1 to 2 weeks, then when you have sex again be gentle and wash your piercings afterwards... I then went on my way. I was there for about 10 to 15 minutes total! I could still walk without any discomfort at all. I spend the rest of the day taking it easy to avoid bleeding as I had to work that night!

It is now about 16 hours after the piercing. I still am in no pain, and have been to work since the piercing (I work in a bakery – manual labour & heavy lifting ect). The frenum has completely stopped bleeding, and then apadravya only has a slight trickle.

My boxes also have a few small blotches of blood from the slow trickle while I was at work. There is also a very small amount of bruising on the head of my penis from when the needle went through it, but it isn't very sore. There is only a slight amount of pain when touching it. Been to the toilet 3 times, urinating is not a problem. I can still go as before with no pain at all, and no new urine holes.

Overall, the entire experience was quick, painless and professional. I would recommend these piercings to everyone. From my experience I feel that the most important things are to make sure that your piercer has done these before, that the piercing room is clean, all equipment is sterilized and you follow the aftercare instructions given to you. I will update this in a few days to let you all know how the healing is progressing, and will post some photos at that time.

If you have any questions about a getting an apadravya or frenum (or even an eyebrow ring, nipple ring or tongue ring) then please contact me and I'll try to help you in any way that I can. I have all these piercings and LOVE them all... Just have to tell my other half about my "New additions".
