Okay, I had my cock pierced nearly six months ago now and I've been meaning to write it up for you for a while. Maybe I'll be able to give you a bit more about the healing process rather than just the actual procedure. I have to say, whilst having a needle pushed through the end of my cock definitely was a worry, I was actually more concerned about what might happen to it afterwards. Pain I can handle, my cock falling off is another matter.

Maybe that's a bit melodramatic, but I should point out that this was my first ever proper professional piercing, and my first piercing of any nature for more than ten years. I pierced my own reverse PA when I was younger (which lasted less than a week, as far as I can remember) and I used to wear a padlock through my left ear but I'm thirty years old now and I thought I was a little beyond all of that. Apparently not, I'm glad to find! My piercer gave me the address of BME to do some research first, but I didn't have a computer at the time and I didn't really enjoy sitting in the library reading about what was going to happen to me so I just shut my eyes and went ahead with it, so to speak.

I'd originally wanted an ampallang, but my girlfriend preferred the apadravya so that's what I decided on. I'm glad I did now. I was bloody terrified before I got it done; I drove to the piercer's, about an hour's drive away, and the closer I got the more afraid I got. My piercer (Laura @ Purple Piercing) was really calm and professional though and put me at ease. I still had my girlfriend hold my hand, though, and I didn't look. I was clamped- this isn't nice, but it isn't agonising either- then pierced.

Having something sharp pass through your penis feels very horrible and unpleasant and is very painful. However, it doesn't hurt as much as you think it's going to (what could?) and as soon as it's over (a second? Two?) it stops hurting immediately and completely. Then the jewellery goes in, which hurt just as much in my case, but again it's over very quickly and then it stops hurting right away. It isn't how much something hurts that's hard to deal with, but how long it lasts. If anyone's thinking of getting their cock pierced but is worrying about the pain, then don't. It really isn't that bad. I'd sooner have my cock pierced again than have my tattoo coloured in again. (Which needs doing. Oh dear!)

I rang everyone I could think of straight afterwards to boast and then went straight out for a (non alcoholic) drink. I felt good! I couldn't really walk too well, and I did feel a bit tender but I was in no pain whatsoever. Well, I might have been, but nothing that a couple of paracetamol (acetaminophen in the US, I think) didn't mask. I didn't get in until several hours later, by which time I really needed a piss. I was scared to take one and I ran myself a nice warm bath to piss in but as it turned out it didn't hurt at all.

As I say, it's been nearly six months now, and throughout the whole process pain really hasn't been much of an issue I'm surprised to say. However, rather than the six to eight weeks healing time quoted by my piercer I would say that it's more or less healed only now, but still not quite. I'm pretty sure that jewellery size and type has been the problem for me. I was pierced at 1.6mm (14ga or thereabouts) with a 35mm (1 3/8") titanium barbell. Now, I'm not circumcised and 35mm is too long. I had to tape my foreskin back to avoid putting pressure on the barbell, which is fine for a few days, but after a few weeks my cock end was getting very sore and chapped. I know you shouldn't really change jewellery until a piercing has fully healed but I didn't really see that I had any choice. After a bit of experimentation I settled on a 28mm 316L steel barbell I ordered from Wildcat (www.wildcat.co.uk -they delivered within a couple of days, very good!) but I don't know whether it was the change of material or just pissing around with the jewellery but this seemed to slow the healing rate. Measure up and get the right size to start with and you'll save yourself a lot of grief, I suspect.

Also, 1.6mm is not heavy enough! Nowhere near! Even after I got the right length jewellery and started to heal up, any pressure at all on the barbell gave me a sharp pain in the top part of the piercing where it passed through the erectile tissue. Not agonizing, but sharp enough to put an end to any sexual activity. I've stretched it up to 3.2mm (8ga) now and this problem has almost disappeared, but I don't think stretching so quickly has done me any good. The piercing has blown out (look it up on the BME encyclopaedia) slightly at the top exit, nothing too unpleasant but I'm going to wait a while before I stretch any further. I don't know what the largest gauge that you can get pierced at is, but the larger the better I suggest. I'd still like to go larger for comfort, maybe 4 or 5mm (6/4ga).

Anyway, enough of the negatives. Apart from the problem with the jewellery, the biggest problem I've had has been getting hard just thinking about my new piercing, and the harder I got the more it hurt (in a good way!) and the harder I got until I just couldn't make it go away! This is not the worst problem I have ever experienced. Even though it's taken a long time to heal, something you could maybe avoid by getting something a little less extreme than an apadravya for your first piecing and getting some experience, it's been a pleasure (okay, a masochistic one, but that's why you're here, no?) all along. I love the feel of the apadravya, I suspect a well placed ampallang might be a little more comfortable but my girlfriend loves the way it feels for her so what the hell. I don't suppose it's something that makes sex better for everyone but if the thought's even crossed your mind then you just have to be that way inclined, and for me the tight, stiff feeling when I get hard , the weight of the bar, and especially the extra pressure when I come (and the way it makes my girlfriend come!) are just fantastic. Don't be as scared as I was, just take care and you'll have a lot of fun!
