I have gotten all the piercings I have wanted otherwise, but never any genital piercings. Recently I started looking into it again, not sure why, guess it was just calling to me. :)
I began researching everything I could find, which led me to BME as well as the APP's website. I found that there were only 2 studios in my area with APP recognized piercers, so that narrowed down my choices. Piercology ended up being the better choice for several reasons. First off, Piercology is not a tattoo parlor as well, they just do piercings. On top of that, Patrick McCarthy was the president of the APP for a while and has been piercing for over a decade. He also has a couple of stories posted about him on here, check in the ampallang section for Columbus, OH. After checking out the place I decided that if I was going to do it, Piercology would be the place.
Ultimately I plan on getting a magic cross (both an apadravya and an ampallang). I decided to go for the apadravya first. My girlfriend has also been considering getting a vertical clit hood (look for her post about that one). We went in on Tuesday June 17 to get them done. We were greeted at the counter by Janet and Ryan. Janet proceeded to help my girlfriend out while I spoke with Ryan. I was immediately surprised at the level of professionalism and comfort maintained at Piercology. Ryan was very knowledgeable about the piercing and helped to ease any anxiety I still had. After talking with him I decided to get it done with a 10g barbell.
My girlfriend went first. Tiffany was her piercer and did an excellent job. My girlfriend can be a very shy and nervous person, especially when it comes to her body, but Tiffany made her feel very comfortable and the piercing went quick and smooth. Then came my turn.
Ryan called me into the room, when it was ready, and had me pull my pants down and get up on the table. He proceeded to explain how everything would be done and he cleaned and marked the head of my penis. Pat then checked his marks and got the needle and jewelry ready. He clamped the area and took the piercing needle to the entry mark on the bottom. He informed me that he was going to go on my third exhale and had me start breathing. I could feel the tip of the needle distinctly pressing on the bottom and the clamps pinched a bit, but for some reason I wasn't really nervous at all. On the third exhale he pierced me.
I won't lie, it definitely hurt, but not as bad as everyone makes it seem. The pain built up continuously while the needle passed through, but as soon as it approached the point where it was almost too much, he was done. Seconds later the endorphin rush kicked in and I couldn't feel it anymore. It took a good few hours for me to come down from this high. He explained about the cleaning and bleeding a bit more to me as he placed a rubber glove over my genitals.
I bled a tiny bit the first couple of days, but there was never any liquid volume in any of the gloves, just some blood dried on the sides. Most of the bleeding happened while I was sleeping. I also haven't any trouble urinating. It burned a little the first time, but has been just like normal since. I did have to come back in to get the barbell changed as it was pinching a little when I became fully aroused, but that was no problem really. Pat changed the barbell for me right away free of charge and everything has been fine since then. I just can't wait until it heals up so I can get my ampallang :).
Overall I really can't believe how easy this piercing has been. It seems to be healing way faster than I expected and has gone without any complication so far, plus it just kicks ass. For anyone considering getting an apadravya, all I can say is, unless you REALLY can't handle any pain, just do it. The pain is minimal and short and is far outweighed by the benefits.
I was most impressed with everyone at Piercology. They are all very professional and friendly. They made both me and my girlfriend feel very comfortable with the whole experience, which really amazed me as I don't even feel comfortable getting a physical from the doctor I have gone to for the last 5 years. I will be getting all of my future piercings at Piercology and recommend that everyone else in the central Ohio area do the same. This place is truly in a league of its own.
