PA -> Apadravya in NM

I got a PA in the beginning of September (read PA Experience, first piercing experience if you want to), and I wasn't entirely happy with it. I loved the aesthetic of it, as well as the sensation it provided, but I guess overall it just didn't do it for me. First, the ring (10ga 3/4" cbr) was too small a diameter, so it didn't heal. I had to wait about 2 weeks to get a 7/8", which helped me out a lot. My girlfriend didn't like the size of the ring (her anatomy is rather small), and she felt that the gauge was also too thin. She also has a pretty small mouth, so oral was totally out of the question. I was faced with a predicament, and I had only a few options:

1. take the ring out for oral and intercourse; (this was an option, but really, why have a piercing that's made to enhance pleasure if you don't use it to it's full potential?)

2. stretch the ring so that the thickness isn't too small to bother her (though the outside diameter does increase, even if you've got the same inside diameter. This would deffinately mean still removing the ring for oral sex, as well as the risk that the additional size would just make things worse);

3. switch to a curved barbell (I don't really like the look of those, I'm weird);

Since none of those options seemed like what I wanted, I decided that I'd go ahead and just get an apadravya. The profile is a bit sleeker, and I'm thinking of doing a subincision, so I'd still be able to retain at least half the piercing. Personally I like the appearance of the ampallang overall, but from what I've read, the apadravya is more well received with women (Why would I want a piercing that my girlfriend hates? That's why I got rid of the PA).

I went to Evolution (Albuquerque, NM), and told them what I wanted. The guy (Noah) said that he normally pierces apadravyas at 12ga. I figured that I could stretch it out later, and went along with it.

We selected a 1 3/8" 12ga bb (3/16" balls, too small for much stimulation, I'd think) and I hopped up on the table. He drew a + on the top of my penis (I didn't see what he did with the pen afterwards, I wish I'd paid attention, I was pretty nervous), and then applied the clamps. A few slow breaths and in went the needle. It hurt, but not as much as I was anticipating. I had psyched myself up for the most agonizing experience I'd ever felt, and in comparison, it wasn't so bad. Noah inserted the jewelry and quickly ran over the aftercare, I thanked him, paid, tipped, and left.

The walk back home was about 2 miles, but I was on an endorphin rush so I wasn't bothered with any discomfort. I went to the bathroom and urinated, no sting or anything. I took a picture and cleaned it up and left it alone.

The next morning, there was a little bit of blood in my boxers, but not much compared to the PA. A 1 cm bruise had formed around the hole, which has since faded pretty much.

I showed it to my girlfriend, who was still doubtful if it would give her any positive stimulation, but we decided there was no harm in trying it out.

Update: It's been about two weeks now, and healing is pretty uneventful. I just wash it once a day and leave it alone. I've had sex a few times, which is a little uncomfortable. The barbell is a bit long, and tends to "catch" a little. I'm probably going to get a 1 1/8" bb so that when I have an erection, the balls are a bit sunken into the head. That should eliminate any catchiness. In about a month, I'll change out the barbell I think.

Update: I think it's been around a month now, everything seems to be working out fine. I have a little ridge of scar tissue around the top hole. Hopefully, it's healing from underneath (inside the urethra) as well. Sex is much easier, though the jewelry does still catch occasionally. I'm planning on getting a smaller barbell with bigger beads in two or three weeks. I am very anxious to get the right size jewelry, but I don't want to risk hurting the new tissue that's growing.

All in all, I really like the apadravya, though it doesn't give the urethral stimulation that the PA did. My girlfriend says it stimulates all the right places, and that it feels good inside her. A big step up from the PA. As for the lack of urethral stimulation, hopefully someday I'll get a prince's wand, or else just do a partial subincision or meatotomy.
