I'm a 20 year old male UC Berkeley student. I already had my ears, tongue, and right nipple pierced, and I'd been interested in genital piercing for a while. Right off the bat, I had decided that I like the aesthetics of the apadravya much more than those of the PA. So after months of wanting to get pierced, and then hesitating and procrastinating, one day I said, "This is the day," and my friend (who was getting his tongue pierced) and I made our way to Wicked in Berkeley, CA.

Then things got more fun... I told the man at the counter what I wanted done and we picked out the jewelry (a 14 gauge 1.25"—I think—barbell). As he was ringing me up, he said to me, "You'll, uh, have to tell me how it goes. I'm thinking of getting one, myself, but I'm worried about the pain." I laughed and said ok. From his booth, the piercer asked who was getting what next, and the cashier pointed first to my friend and said tongue and then to me, saying apadravya. The piercer's eyes lit up and he looked at me, saying, "We'll save the best for last!"

My friend was in and out with a new tongue piercing in just a couple of minutes. Then I went in. I pulled down my pants (but not my boxers), sat down in the chair, and pulled my dick through the opening in my boxers. The piercer cleaned my dick with some stuff and then marked the entry and exit holes with a marker. I approved them. Then he adjusted the chair so I was lying down. He used a clamp to hold my dick, and started counting to 3, telling me to take deep breaths. When he got to 2, he started shoving the needle through. Talk about pain! I didn't scream of yell or cry or anything like that, but let me tell you, it was intense! I held onto the seat very tightly and concentrated very hard. What seemed like a few seconds later, he announced that he was half way through! Pretty soon he was all the way through. It hurt again a little bit when he put the actual jewelry in.

Before going in to be pierced, I had read up a lot on the procedure on BME and in the rec.arts.bodyart newsgroup. Most everybody seemed to say that the piercer is supposed to get you to measure the size of your dick when erect, to make sure that the jewelry is big enough to accommodate the dick no matter if it's flaccid or hard. My piercer didn't do this. I can't remember if it actually occurred to me in the middle of the experience, or if I was too excited about the piercing that I forgot such common sense things! In any event, I had to come back to the studio a couple days later because the barbell I had was too small. When I got an erection, it became quite clear I needed a longer barbell. So I went back to Wicked and they replaced the jewelry for free.

I was quite distressed that I had to have a 14 gauge barbell. I really wanted like an 8 or 6. But I was informed it was best to start small and then stretch. A month after the initial piercing, I went back for the first stretch. I wanted to go to 10 gauge, but the piercer told me I should go to 12 this time, because of the pain. He was right! Stretching hurt much more than the initial piercing. And that made me even angrier that we didn't just pierce with an 8 gauge to begin with!

6 months later, I took the piercing out, because every guy I had sex with (when I was the top) told me the piercing hurt them. Either the sex would be quick or end early, or I just wouldn't get any! Enough was enough! I thought, as much as I like the way the piercing looks, if it's going to prevent my having sex, I'm going to have to take it out. So I removed it. A couple weeks later I thought maybe I could put in a CBR, since I'd heard that the bottom part of the piercing doesn't usually close up. Sure enough, it went right it, and I had an instant PA. But I didn't really like the way it looked, and it seemed to be in the way all the time, so I took it out. I was especially annoyed by urine leaking when I went to the bathroom. Apparently, putting in the PA and then taking it out let the hole heal up more than it had after I took out the apadravya, and now I don't leak at all, thank god. Anyhow, currently, I don't have any piercings in that area... though I'm thinking of getting some new ones. =)
