I just want to start off by saying "Do Not Try This At Home." I know I did it, but it was not the smartest thing I have ever done and could have been very dangerous had things gone wrong.

I had had an ampallang in the past, but had to take it out for life related issues. But, I desperately wanted it back. So, one night, I decided I was going to redo the pierce myself.
The night that I finally did it, I had skipped out on going out with my friends and spent the night by myself at home. After a little while, I had finally gotten myself to a state of calmness and proceeded to get all my tools together. I had already previously gone to a friend's shop and had everything sterilized, so it wouldn't take too much prep time when I chose to do it. With the tools laid out before me and new gloves on my hands, I began the work.
I started off by very thoroughly cleaning the area to be pierced. Luckily, because I was alone, I still had the scars of my previous pierce to help as a guide for where the new pierce should be located. After a good cleansing, I drew on the dots of where I wanted the needle to enter and exit. At this point, I was getting kind of nervous, remembering the bleeding I had done the first time around. Still, I maintained my calm and continued.
I then picked up and put on the clamps I had chosen for the pierce. I had decided to go with a pair of slotted foresters for the easiest removal afterwards. Once the clamps were on, and arranged just right, I picked up the needle and took a deep breath. For the pierce, I had chosen a 13 gauge needle and a 14 gauge 1.5" barbell to follow through. I then took about 9 more deep breaths before I actually aligned the needle and pushed.
My god, the pain! As the needle pushed through the first layers of skin, I got a sudden surge of adrenalin and almost stopped. I got the needle in past the tip and stopped for a minute to breathe, knowing the worse was about to come. When I had steadied my breathing I continued by pushing as hard as I could, hoping to make it through my urethra with one push. This was not the case. When I pushed, the needle glided smoothly through the first wall of my urethra, but then kind of stopped. At this point, a little droplet of blood exited the tip of my urethra. This made me pretty nervous, so I took one last deep breath and pushed as hard as I could, and POP! The needle was finally completely through. I couldn't believe it had actually made a slight pop sound, but then again, maybe it hadn't.
I sat there for a few minutes enjoying the sensations flowing through my body from the new pierce. After that time, I knew I needed to get the needle out and the jewelry in, so I started with that. That was when things got scary.
As I had done a thousand times before, I put some sterile lubricant on the barbell itself to help with the insertion process and fit the end of it into the end of the needle. I took hold of the needle with one hand and the barbell with the other, and did a push and pull movement with the needle and jewelry. All seemed to be going fine, until they came through that first wall of my urethra. At that point, they separated and the needle came through, but the jewelry got "lost." The pain I felt from the end of the barbell hitting the inner walls let me know something was wrong, and I needed to fix it ASAP.
I quickly pulled the needle completely out, and started to move the barbell around, hoping to find the other hole to guide it through. I know that it was probably only a few seconds, but it felt like minutes, especially with blood dripping from two of the three holes I now had. Finally, with a searing pain, I found the opposite hole and was able to get the jewelry through. As the end of the barbell came through, I suddenly felt funny, and fell over, passed out.
I am honestly not sure how long I was out, but I know it wasn't too long, for the blood had barely begun to clot. When I did sit back up, I got a sudden surge of panic as I thought "oh shit, the jewelry!" I looked down, and the jewelry was still in, giving me the chance to heave a sigh of relief. At this point, I took a few moments to gather and compose myself before continuing. I was beginning to feel kind of woozy, so I decided to try to finish as quickly as possible, just in case I fainted again.
I reached over to the tray I had laid out with everything I needed and grabbed an alcohol wipe to clean off the now drying blood from the barbell so I could put the end ball on. I won't lie, it stung like hell. But, I was done. I finished by cleaning up everything and doing a brief salt soak. I had done it! My feelings were all about the pride of doing it myself, but I also felt stupid for doing it by myself, knowing that things could have been really bad had I accidentally fucked it up.
In the end, I would never recommend doing this piercing by yourself, without the help of someone in the room. But hey, everyone lives and learns. I'm just happy I lived and didn't bleed out during that fainting of mine.
