About 5 years ago I decided to get an Ampallang piercing. So one day we (my wife, brother-in-law, and I) headed out to South Street in Philly. On South Street there are 2 major piercing studios, Warrior Body Piercing, and Inferno. First we checked out Warrior. I've had work done there before; Sage did my Prince Albert and hafada. We told them what I wanted and asked how much, I forget what they said the price would be, (maybe something like $75) but they also mentioned custom jewelry, which if memory serves me correctly wasn't included in the price. I thought that was odd to mention custom jewelry at all, and most of my other piericngs, the jewelry was included. We went down the street and checked in Inferno. Their price was less, (maybe $60) and jewelry was included but not custom. So we went with the lower price. Mistake number 1.
At A Glance Author myq13 Contact myq13@yahoo.com When Five years ago Artist unknown Studio Inferno Location Philadelphia, PA There's this one Geico Insurance commercial in which parents are scolding their daughter, "I can't believe you did this" etc. Then the girl sticks her tongue out and it's pierced. The parents say something to the effect of "How could you? Our daughter getting her tongue pierced and NOT shopping around for the best price!?" Well to the average person I can see how that would be amusing. But I now know that sometimes getting the best price isn't always the best thing for you.
In case you don't know what an Ampallang is, it's a barbell horizontally through the head of the penis. From what I've heard this is a potentially deadly piercing, as it's possible to hit the corpus cavernosum, (the large blood vessels in the penis) in which case you'll bleed to death before an ambulance can get there. A person once asked me why I'd risk it then. I explained that it's not like I'm gonna just guess and do it myself, I went to a professional piercer who has done them before, so I'm sure the risk is minimal of dying. Also it enhances sensation in the area, gives the woman extra stimulation. And lastly since it's potentially dangerous...braggin' rights!
So I get up on the table and the piercer makes her marks. Now for a little personal info. I'm a "grower" as opposed to a "shower". When I'm flaccid, it's embarrassing. Well I'm about to get a genital piercing. It's my first experience with a female piercer. She's obviously a lesbian (not that there's anything wrong with being a lesbian or female piercer). So I wasn't exactly horney. She gets out the needle, cork, and barbell. And did the piercing. I thoroughly enjoyed the piercing. In fact the piercer said she was impressed with how well I handled it. She put the barbell in and my wife commented that the barbell looked like it might be too small for me, saying that when I "get excited" I get "a lot bigger". The piercer said it'll be ok, but her attitude was saying, "Look I'm not a moron, I understand male anatomy."
Well a couple days later the wife and I decided to give it a test run. The barbell was painfully tight! At first we thought it might be because the piercing was still fresh. But every time I got an erection the barbell was pinching. We decided to go out and get a longer one. Mistake number 2.
We headed out and bought a barbell that appeared to be the right length, and put it in. Well this one was a bit too long. It kept getting caught in things (clothes, blankets, my wife). And every time it did, it pulled on me. We also noticed keloids were starting to form. I don't mind having nice shiny metal sticking out of my dick, but not scar tissue.
So I headed to the dermatologist to see what could be done. Needless to say he was taken aback by my particular situation. He had me take out the barbell and he got out the Lidocaine to numb me up and hot knife to cut off the keloids. After he was done he said I should wait a couple days before I try to put any jewelry in there. Well a couple days later I realized that the piercing had closed up.
Now I understand why Warrior mentioned custom jewelry.
This hasn't put me off to the idea of another Ampallang. In fact I hope to be getting one soon. I'm just waiting for someone to "share" it with since the wife and I have since been divorced. I'm also not averse to lesbian piercers, just that particular one, as well as any other piercer that works at Inferno.
So my cheaper piercing ended costing me much more than the more expensive one, once you figure in buying the second barbell, and the visit to the dermatologist along with the pain and suffering. I learned my lesson the hard way, if you decide to get an Ampallang, make sure you ask the shop about jewelry length, and taking measurements in the appropriate physical state.
